Thoughts from yesterday

Every game is a crunch game right now and chance to exact some revenge for our defeat.

Early setback could have cost us, but quick equaliser much needed and Dan James having season of his life.

Very niggly game and Preston extremely aggressive in tackles and thought ref was poor, the foul on Rutter yet Rutter booked for diving was prime example.

Defence looks generally solid and despite being out of position at times, Firpo is starting to offer stuff going forwards and is linking up well with Summerville.

Rodon looks very assured there and Ampadu proving real value at being able to drop back.

Has allowed Gruev to be a bit more progressive in his contributions instead of going missing or passing sideways/backwards, hopefully more match time will allow him to deliver more.

Thought Gray looked a little wobbly at times at back, like he was taking on too much, but looks effortless going forwards, would love us to get right back sorted and see Gray first her up the pitch.

Summerville and Rutter run tirelessly and way Summerville gets ball past people at times is brilliant and with Bamford up top now they have a target.

However yeaterdsay quite a few balls into box and Bamford not quite there to put ball away, but there enough to force chances and keep Preston on their toes, he';s doing a great job right now.

And finally we're really getting best out of James, letting him use his ace and it's brilliant to watch and terrifying for defenders.

I try not to be biased for Leeds, but some real roughhouse tactics from Reston yesterday, especially nudge on Gray which sent him tumbling, it felt like deliberate tactics from Preston to be overly physical and I was amazed at how few yellow cards they got.

When it came to penalty, I think it was actually a really harsh decision, ball hardly touched him, despite arm being out, didnt look deliberate, but listening to Preston manager saying ball hit his body etc.....why make this sh** up?

Anyway, we take the decision and then who is going to take it. Bamford comes in for so much stick, but great that he's not a prima donna and thank f Piroe puts that away because that was not a great penalty and 1 all would have been a disaster for us.

Commentator has an org@sm for Leeds, the players go mental and utter relief.

Thought the subs were a little bit late, but otherwise it's points that count, hopefully no injuries and just have to focus on ourselves, if we see doing that and keep points er game tally up, then we have done our part!

Time wasting is becoming a real scourge of the game.

Can easily be stopped.

Keeper gets one warning, then a booking. I said to my dad, on 50 mins, Ref will keep warning him, then book him late on.

And the physio is on far too much, its not gamesmanship, its cheating. Their physio, got dogs abuse, when he came on, but to be fair he was laughing and took it well, but he knew what was going on.

Anyone know why Firpo got booked, it was a throw in🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought same with keeper, its a token gesture, do it earlier though and then keeper on thin ice.

I dont think I've ever seen player sent off for 2 time wasting yellows.

Why did Bamford get booked?

Waving a fake yellow card, I didn't see that but symptomatic of a ref who'd lost control.

Still Bamford shouldn't do that kind of thing.

Another point, why are refs getting away with refering differently in first 20 mins, to rest of game.

A booking is a booking whether in first or last minutes.

Ref was diabolical yesterday and pleasantly surprised that he spotted the penalty. The booking for Rutter was embarrassing. If he's not sure, just play on. No need to book him when he was clearly caught on the upper foot. Keeper also handled outside the box and should have gone

Ref: The pen. It went in, and so it was more than good enough.
Replays show the ball barely touches the underarm. But that 's enough. Arm seeking the ball

Preston were dirty throughout - clearly trying to get us down to 10 men after it worked against Meslier last time we played.

It's a shame that the ref wasn't switched-on to it. He was poor apart from the penalty award which was the only important call he had to make.

A great result for us. Couldn't see anything other than a draw until the pen because of all the above. A bit of luck for us at last!

The Firpo booking was weird. He made a tackle, won the ball and their player rolled around. OK he might have been caught but the ref played on and the ball went out for a grow in. At that point the ref spoke with the Preston player on the floor then booked Firpo. No free kick given - so he never played-on for advantage (I think we had the ball anyway).

Just one of many many poor decisions and Preston’s 7 bookings should have been at least 9 and 2 reds. Horrible team to watch.

I do worry about the standard of refereeing in this division. These are supposedly full-time officials but, with a few exceptions, they allow the kind of cynical and dangerous play by teams like PNE, Stoke and others. When you see it on tv, it looks dreadful. What does it look like when you are at the game? There was one scissors tackle on Gruev that looked like an instant red to me. Dangerous, intending to bring the player down. The PNE players knew, at that stage, the ref wasn’t going to do anything about it, so they deliberately set out to harm our players. Do we have to wait for a serious injury to DJ or Cree before we raise our voice about this? That ref was dreadful, and he not the worst we have seen this season. It makes me wonder how these people are being trained as referees, and what directives they are being given.

Evidently over the two games against us they committed 40 fouls. That’s the most any team has done against another in the last three seasons in the Championship.
