AFCON / AFC Cup update 2

The group stage is over and what a dramatic week we have just witnessed.
In Africa we saw the hosts get hammered 4-0 and looking likely to be out, so much so they even sacked their manager. However, Ghana were to outdo them as they conceded twice in injury time to throw away a 2-0 lead and qualification. Other fancied sides Algeria and Tunisia also fell. Cameroon were minutes away from elimination but a dramatic last 5 minutes saw them go behind, go back ahead and then survive a "hand of god" moment.
Senegal look the most complete of the teams, winning all 3 games, the only team to record a 100% record. Namibia and Mauritania both progressed to the knockouts for the first time ever. Equatorial Guinea and Angola were among the outsiders who looked very good in the group stages.

Over in Asia it was a little more straightforward, as Japan and South Korea recovered from bad round 2 results to do enough. Iraq, Iran and host nation Qatar all posted 100% records, with Iraq beating favourites Japan along the way.

Some big games in the first knockout round. Can Cote d'Ivoire make the most of their second chance against tournament holders and favourites Senegal? Nigeria and Cameroon meet, while second favourites Morocco go up against South Africa.
In Asia, South Korea meet Saudi Arabia in the stand-out tie. Bahrain's reward for winning group E is a match up with pre-tournament favourite Japan. Iraq meet Jordan while Australia play Indonesia. Qatar host Palestine.

I believe Egypt have a chance still to get to semis.

the last day just fell for them perfectly and they've shown fight every game.

however it also looks like thry might meet Senegal then.

the other team I'm obviously interested in is japan. barring odd thing happening they should get to the final so I fully expecting endos career at lfc to be fully ruined by this as lfc move on with trent and macca at 6 and gomez and Bradley fighting for rb.

but yeah Asia cup perfect timing.

I honestly hope you're wrong. I support the DR Congo and I think they'll send Egypt home this weekend.
