I want the players back as much as you guys, but I also have no issues with them going far in their competitions either considering these are human beings who care and feel proud to play for their countries.

Nah bollox to that, we pay their wages, plus there’s no prestige to the AFCON, it comes round every two years which dilutes all that - if they made it every four years like the proper tournaments I’d have a bit more empathy, but let’s be honest it’s Mickey Mouse and the sooner they're back here doing what they’re paid for the better.

I don't think the players see it like that though. As I say I want our players back but them getting some success with their countries is good for them and us too.

True, but Son and Sarr have both lifted trophies for their country so it won’t hurt them too much to not do so this time and get back to Tottenham next week - I’m sure both really want to play CL football next season

Why is it every 2 years? Seems excessive especially in the middle of the European season.

Good job we didn’t sign Kessie when we were supposed to be after him.
I also think that we should have no more than two African players in the squad, having more & especially if they are first choice, seriously compromises the team whilst they are away.
Think City know this and no longer have any African players in their team.
It is a shame really as some of the best players in the PL over last ten years have been from African countries.

Just to say, anyone who wanted him to miss his penalty last night is a disgrace and should be ashamed of themselves.

I guess you could argue that European countries are involved in 3 tournaments every 4 years, although in fairness without our domestic seasons. Still a hell of a lot of football though without a sensible break when you factor in Far Eastern/USA and Aussie pre-season tours

3 tournaments. WC (which includes African countries) Euros....what else?

He means like:

2024 - Euros
2026 - WC
2028 - Euros

In that same time period there would be x3 AFCON though (which impacts on a PL season) plus a WC.
