Everyone who has watched the AFCON (and i mean any match at the AFCON) can testify to the simply shocking fact that African refs are much better than Premier League refs.
The way AFCON refs have been able to take charge and utilize VAR is the exactly what VAR was created for. AFCON has clearly shown that VAR is not the problem in the EPL. Application of VAR by the EPL refs is the problem. The perfect use of VAR by AFCON refs has basically exposed how incompetent EPL refs are.

Have only watched one game in the AFCON, the first SF yesterday. Wouldn’t say that was a great advert for the ref, who missed numerous big moments on the pitch, where VAR had to belatedly get involved to get the correct decision. The VAR process also took an absolute eternity, every time … and even both pens during normal time took forever to take. After all those delays, plus multiple subs and injury breaks, the ref then massively under-calculated added time. Apart from that he was great.

The ref performances at the ACN is many miles better than the PL circus. Yes, it wasn't perfect and a few incidents got wro g calls eg red card for Mane, but most of those referees at the tournament were using VAR for the first time because only a couple of leagues in Africa use it.

People will want to say the AFCON standard is better to make a point against the EPL - I don't think it is.
