I think we have to be careful with Gallagher. Is he Lampard? Well, no! Is he ournbestnperforming midfielder? Undeniably, yes!
Gallagher has potential - as do many of our players, He's scored ... finally ... in two matches in a row. His press and tenacity are a great positive for us. If we are to sell players, I'd suggest Maatsen, Cucurella, whichever central defender, Jackson, maybe make a profit on Madueke. In the state we are in, we need a proper centre forward to make the next step but we can't afford to sell starting midfielders.

I'm not sure the club have ever wanted to sell Gallagher. For the last 4 transfer windows the media have had us believe he's up for sale for around £40m. I think at that price some club would have offered us that for a young talented english midfielder, but it hasn't materialised, which makes me wonder if he really is for sale. He's consistently in the first team so doesn't make sense to sell unless it's for a much higher price

Most things in the media these days is clickbait, and the source tends to be another website, no one gets sued, everyone gets paid and those that click on the links get something to play with.

Yes it would be very unlike the club to sell a youth academy player for profit..

The reality is that he has not signed a new contract.
For whatever reason?
This imo is why the doubts continue to surface regarding his long term future.
? Are his contract demands too much for the club or is the contract the club are offering him not suited to him?
The FFP compliance issues going forward will continue to create doubt regarding the long term prospects of our players.
The club failed to agree a contract with Mount so Gallagher's position is simarlily in question until he agrees a contract unfortunately .
I think it is reasonable to assume the club will cash him in opposed to letting his contract run out.

That was sort of my point. I would have thought a number of clubs would have matched the £40m asking price (that the media quoted) but he is still at chelsea, making me think we didn't want to sell. That said, I hadn't realised that he only had 18months left on his contract when I wrote the above...so if he hasn't extended by summer then I guess it's likely he'll be sold. The ownerships strategy on salaries seems to be longer and lower than in the past, so Gallagher might be asking more than they're willing to offer (bit like Mount)
