UEFA shirt sale/merchandise figures 22/23

UEFA recently put out their merchandise and shirt sale report for last season and it makes for an interesting read.

Liverpool sit 4th, slightly ahead of United, with 113m.

What is interesting is Spurs are ahead of Man City, with around 74m compared to Man City's 62.5m 😂😂😂

Let that sink in....the team that the same year posted the biggest income is ranked 11th for shirts and merchandising 😂 just above half of Liverpool and United.

Tickets, shirts and merch are the way to gauge a clubs level of support. You'd think casuals would flock to see a team that can pull cash from thin air and play like the harlem globe trotters! Seems not.

I know they ain't related but I read these numbers and think surely City are gonna get smashed when they face their charges. Their financials just never seem to make sense 🤔

Oh you said prize money, typical, changing the metrics because $hitty aren't top dogs in this particular field.

Yeah, shirt sales are much more important than winning trophies - Who needs Sky or TNT when you can look at pictures of Chinese people wearing a club shirt for free.

So you don't find it a bit strange your club had record revenues but the financials show a small fan base? 🤔

Since when have official shirt sales decided the size of a fan base?

The bulk of our revenue has come from winning trophies and the high TV revenue that brings.

We went for several months without a club store, the old one was demolished due to redevelopment and the new one only opened recently

I wouldn’t find that strange at all, if we hadn’t won anything or had less global coverage then we did I would.

Data from Nielsen, compiled by sports media analyst Larry Johnson, reveals City were the most-watched English team in all competitions in the U.S. throughout 2023, with their total average viewership hitting 36.9million. Only Club America of Mexico’s top-flight Liga MX were above them in the table.

For context, Manchester United, who many consider one of the biggest teams in the world, ended 2023 with a total average viewership of 13.4million, finishing below Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Of course that means nothing if they didn't buy relica shirts.

To be fair, the OP “changed the metrics” with his comment about this not being related to the charges against City, but using it as a reason why City must be guilty of the charges.

None of the OP’s post has anything to do with the charges, yet he has used these figures in order to make a point about them.

The three “metrics” (ticket sales, shirts, and merchandise) are relatively small income streams for any club in comparison to Sponsorship, TV revenue, and prize money, so its absolutely natural for another poster to draw attention to this.

Tbf I was making the point most fans are scratching their heads that city post record financial bit all metrics that point to a strong fan base are massively lacking.
The fact it doesn't really make sense or add up with cities success seems a good reason to think something isn't right, and that makes me question city's accounting and pending charges.

Maybe could do a breakdown of the 3 major revenue streams (prize money, TV money and sponsorship) covering the top 6 clubs just for clarity.

Bear in mind shirt manufacturers keep about 85% of the money made from the sales of their product.

Maybe Spurs made more than us in prize money or Villa beat us on TV revenue.

Please enlighten us.
