Should the Premier League have playoffs?

For the last CL place?

So in the Championship, there are obviously playoffs to decide the final promoted team, and it's nice because even teams in like 8th or 9th place towards the end of the season still can try and fight to finish 6th and have a chance of reaching the PL.

What if we had something similar in the PL? So 1st, 2nd, 3rd qualify for the CL, but then you have playoffs between 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th for the last CL place. Can you imagine how insane those games would be?

What do you think? Would this system be better than the existing one?

The play-offs is a really flawed concept. Look at the difference between third and sixth place in the Championship.

Definitely not! The play-offs idea ridiculous!

Teams earn the right be promoted over the season, a team can finish 3rd but then can lose out to a team finishing 6th it’s just not right!

By that logic, how is it fair if a team that finishes 8th or below but wins the league cup gets Conference league over 7th place? The team that finishes higher in the league loses out in that case.

But the other team won another trophy, the league cup, so they deserve it? OK, but in the scenario you've described, the team in 6th wins another trophy, the playoff trophy, so surely they deserve it too by the same logic.

Wow! So let me get this right! You asked the question “ What do you think?”

I’ve told you what I think! Obviously wasn’t to your liking and now you’re stamping your feet, why ask us what we think!

All this “logic” and “scenarios” guff you really are overthinking it!

This is some weird logic considering the league and league cup are different competitions. The issue raised in the championship playoffs is you can be good enough for 6th all season then beat the 3rd place team in a one off game.

How is it weird logic? The 6th place team can miss out on Europa league football to a team who finishes 10th or 11th if that team wins the FA Cup. So it's already possible to qualify for Europe ahead of a team who's finished higher in the league than you. People are saying it wouldn't be right and should never be introduced when it's already possible.

It’s really weird and you’re also being very narrow minded on your assumptions

I explained already, they are two different comps. The winner of the LC gets into Europe on merit. League form has nothing to do with it.

Exactly this! (Not often we agree on stuff FoAR) 🤣

At present in the Championship there’s a 17pt gap between 3rd and 6th, which may reduce or increase but for me it would be shocking that Leeds have worked their backsides off then to get knocked out in the playoffs by a team who are 17pts worse off points for the sake of making money for the powers that be, just doesn’t sit right with me!

Agreed, entertainment wise and adding the wembley factor and adding excitement to more teams but reality is 3rd could finish on 30 more points than 6th... theres already a 17 point gap between 3rd and 6th as it is now... now in a one off game losing to that 6th place team when youre 30 points better must be gutting.
