Thoughts from tonight

Strong side and it was needed, Stoke a tricky opponent for us.

I thought we were doing ok, without being anything special, but then we got on top and it felt like more and more pressure us.

Roberts very progressive and of course reminds one of Ayling in terms of willingness to get forwards whilst being quite a different player.

Byram quite tidy on other wing and Rodon and Ampadu had to work hard as Stoke were threatening at times.

Bamford caused problems and Dan James as we're regularly saying, having a great season, gives us the lead.

But its a slender lead and if it weren't for Meslier it wouldn't have been a lead, in fact it could have been a deficit, Stoke certainly had their chances and second half we were labouring.

Kamara always seems more progressive of our midfielders and I still am not really seeing it with Gruev.

Summerville had a bit of a quiet game, subs gave a chance for Joseph to get some minutes and he nearly had great impact and one wonders where Piroe is going to find himself in this pecking order.

We managed to hold on and huge credit must go to Meslier. Start of season everyone was saying get rid, Darlow will be the main man. 16 clean sheets later, Meslier is huge part of reason why we are right up there.

We would have been even more up there had there not been an incredible comeback from Ipswich and of course it had to be Leif Davis scoring winner.

Overall, a tricky match out the way, another 3 points, hopefully no injuries and I would say Farke has to think about how he accommodates Gray in that midfield.

Football is way harder physically, plus tennis players don't get kicked to bits or shouted and heckled by thousands of people in games every week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you imagine a tennis player lobbing the ball up to serve, or a golfer on his downswing off the tee and 10,000 people shouting “you sh!t b@st@rd” 😂

True, Steross, though personally, I would like to send Nick Kyrgios home in a Yorkshire ambulance

Is the argument here that modern footballers play
too much football/tire physically and emotionally due
to over playing? Or are people arguing that this is
unfair on our players?

Every team plays the same amount of games bar
cup runs. So, every team in theory is equally
disadvantaged. And so there's no real advantage.
Get on with it.

Nobody said anything about it been unfair on us 🤦

In Nearly every sport, players are getting push far too physically, all in the name of money.

can you imagine a footballer being stabbed in the back by a fan mid match?

"can you imagine a footballer being stabbed in the back by a fan mid match?"

Something you would hope would never happen, but fans have been known to run on the pitch and punch players!..

I wonder if any of them had had knives with them what might have happened!..

But has one been stabbed in back during match?

If we're going to make comparisons then sorry but being stabbed and worrying about being stabbed, is far more stressful that some fans chanting.

Jonty, I'm seeing what you wrote, I only asked what might have been if any of them had a knife in their hands!..

Surely you see that or not?..

Agree on it, but not sure its happened.

Agree with Jonty… not aware anyone been stabbed at football….

… but on the other hand, how many times have tennis fans encroached on the court either individually or in their hundreds? Not aware on one single incident.

Yes. Tennis got the one deranged individual who stabbed the tennis player.

But how lucky are the footballers? Could have been double figures for footballers… they’ve been lucky .

I don't recall saying anything about footballers being stabbed, you said!..

"can you imagine a footballer being stabbed in the back by a fan mid match?"

I replied!..

"Something you would hope would never happen, but fans have been known to run on the pitch and punch players!.."

Than I asked!..

"I wonder if any of them had had knives with them what might have happened!.."

Apart from the "?" I can't work out what I wrote wrong!..
