So what is the problem, & why have the contract talks stalled?
Connor has 12 months of his contract remaining as he goes into next season.
He is clearly an excellent example of what an academy player progressing through ranks can be. He is Chelsea's captain, he performances are consistent, he is part of the spine of the team.
The club are not prepared to meet his contract demands.
The club as had to commit to reducing the wage bill for the 25man squad to 160m p/s down 80m 30% from 240m.
This has happened due to the club shrinking economy, as it now is mid table club. The ownership prioritised player banking over a commitment to ensure that the side maintained its ability to compete at top 4 level.
Now it may be suggested that his demands are over inflated, but that would be disingenuous, as he has been on 50k p week.whilst other of lesser ability & commitment have been earning 175k- 200k +p week.He has been getting short changed
If the club were to give him a contract reflective of his ability, commitment and importance, he would be like a free signing, no fee.
For CFC to replace him , they could easily expect to pay 60/70m +
Now some may say he is not a first 11 nailed on player, imo that is total B/S, as where CFC are today, he is.
The likelihood is that the club will not be able to give him a contract that he deserves, he will be forced to leave, as the club has a limited allocation of contracts that they can pay at 175+. These contracts currently are taken up by> (how many of these players are going to be off the books anytime soon)? Lukaku the most likely
James> 250k> unreliable
Forfana> 200k> injury prone
Chilwell> 200> injury prone
Cucuerrella> 175> very average player
Sterling,>325> more off days than on it days
Lukaku> 325> possibly the worse signing in the clubs history.
Enzo> 180> Needs better players around him
Nukunlu> 195> Another sick note to date.
Looking at this list, it tells the story of why the side is not performing at a level where it should be, our key spine players are a mixture injury prone, inconsistency & overpriced for the quality.
The Clubs chief executive C/J recently said when asked what football club he supported, he said he not really interested in football, he just sees it as a money making product
I think this comment sums up the calibre of of the people running our club today.

James> 250k> unreliable - yep need to sell
Forfana> 200k> injury prone - agreed waste of time
Chilwell> 200> injury prone - & hasn't been good since return
Cucuerrella> 175> very average player (that's an understatement)
Sterling,>325> more off days than on it days (jury out but so not worth that money)
Lukaku> 325> possibly the worse signing in the clubs history. - absolutely useless fat idle caant with attitude
Enzo> 180> Needs better players around him - possibly he does
Nukunlu> 195> Another sick note to date. - I like him when fit

It's the problem with throwing £200k a week at players like the two Fofana's. Means that first team regulars will want something similar. I'm sure Palmer will come looking for a pay rise before too long as well.
Your owners just look like they haven't got a clue what they're doing.

D Fofana has learnt nothing at Burnley (apart from getting battered every week) ...stupid loan

Hi JW, looking at the list of our highest earners, its no wonder were fckd.
Its fckn mad, whats going on.
Ivanovic,Ferrara, Terry, Carvalho, Cole.
Essien Ballack,Lampard, Drogba, Kalou.
At no point over the whole period that these players we at the club did we have anything like the issues, we are currently experiencing.
The club had the strength in depth to cover .

Times have changed chum....we'll have to suck it up for a bit - maybe two seasons or so until we get settled & find a team...or get relegated

I don't really get the hype. He's a good player, but nothing more than that. Better than Mount, but these days that's not hard. He's a 5-8th team placed player.
If Chelsea want to get back up there, I'd sell him.
