I've seen recently Southgate linked with the Manchester United job and there's a lot of over the top reaction to this. Lots of Man Utd fans seem to hate the idea of Southgate becoming manager, claiming he's a Championship level manager etc.
Is this not unfair? I think Southgate's done a fantastic job as England manager. He's turned England into a force in International football for the first time in a while and England now go into tournaments as among the favorites which wasn't the case before he became manager at all. People really believe England can win Euro 2024 and the last time anyone believed in England to that extent was probably the World Cup in 2006. Southgate's done a great job as England manager and in my opinion deserves more respect. He's not on Guardiola or Mourinho's level of course, but I think he could do a good job for a team in 4th-6th which is exactly where united are right now.
Is Southgate underrated?

Mamba: ‘those aren’t the parameters for lower positions’
Later Mamba: ‘wait those parameters help me prove VC wrong, yes I’ll use them’

The parameters referred to in the first statement aren't the same as those in the second one you simpleton.
Furthermore, using your own info against you doesn't mean I take ownership of it. My job is to run rings around you and prove you don't know what you're talking about.

Filter this old miserable fool and you will have a better experience here. I hardly see this stupid swine VC offering anything worthwhile to any thread.
Not hard to take this stupid plonker to the cleaners as you have shown.

In that case, you’re fired due to gross incompetence.
“Definitely nowhere near close” lol

I don't think you know what gross incompetence means. Furthermore, your replies are don't really make sense or follow the debate or explain anything. Might you be drunk by any chance?

To be fair, Southgate would have United play better football than Jose did.

underrated
With the squad England have (and compared to the other heavyweight nations) and the lucky draws England have been gifted in recent tournaments, they've underachieved
Only France in recent years have comparable squad depth (and they've won a WC & lost another WC final on a pen shoot out)
The last Euros were a home tournament for England with a v favourable route through and they still didn't win !
Matches against:
Croatia 2018 WC semi
Italy 2020 Euro final
France 2022 WC quarters
would you say Southgate made the difference for England ?
they should have won at least 2 of those matches and with a better coach would have

England players under Southgate seem to get along better than the pool of talent of the golden generation. But many forget even during that time, there were many outstanding national sides.
Southgate has done a "fantastic job" for England as the high hopes England had in the late 90s to mid/late 00s disappeared. English fans basically accepted we're not the best or have the best players.
Now, England have a good set of players compared to many of the other national teams. Look at how the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and many other so called great national teams aren't as they once were. It still seems under Southgate, England fluff their lines. Itly and Croatia come to mind. In England's biggest matches, Southgate has always fluffed his lines.
And then there is the biggest issue. Managing a national team isn't anything like managing a modern club. Nd Southgate's pragmatism might get you far in international football but not warm you up to fans of a big club like United, where other than a few games, you're meant to attack.
Southgate would be a disaster for United and his own reputation. Both should steer clear of each other.

Got to agree with this. He has underachieved with England considering luck has been thrown his way time and time again.
Came in at a good time when many of the big international teams on the scene weren't what they were, as well as joining up with England when young talent was emerging, including inheriting a decent international keeper capable of saving a penalty for a change. Pickford saved more pens in his first penalty shootout than Robinson, James and Hart (who was also made to look an absolute caant) in theirs, as in actually saving one at all, and if we'd had any of them in 2018 England and Southgate may have gone out early the usual way against Colombia.
Nice qualifiable groups and easier draws compared to previous managers.
No major injuries to key players. I mean remember when we used to go into tournaments with Beckham injured or Rooney injured and rushed back to fitness? Even Owen injuring himself mid-tournament. It would be like Kane constantly injured prior to tournaments today but he's always been primed and ready to go along with our other good players.
No sense of injustice compared to previous tournaments either, like disallowed goals or goals being deemed not crossing the line that would otherwise keep us in games or win them for us.
He had a home tournament. There is a reason the only tournament we've ever won is at home.
And yet despite all of this we've still not won anything and still appear to keep getting bettered by the first decent team we face. Germany is the one exception, although they were and have been since a faded team, going through possibly the worst period in their history. We did face them at home mind you.
Southgate lost us the games against Croatia and Italy. Subs made too late. He even had a direct hand in our penalty failure against Italy by bringing on 2 pen takers so late in the game their first touches were practically the penalties.
So yes he's clueless and unlikely to do anything in the next tournament. Perfect for United though.
