As we approach the business end of the season, the games get that little bit tougher as the opposition battles for either prizes or survival. Burnley's chances look slim but with the ridiculous uncertainty over pending points deductions and appeals a few wins could yet see them over the line and the way they battled to a draw at Stamford bridge on Saturday with 10 men suggested they have that mindset.

They will have suspensions for Assignon and coach Vincent Kompany as a result of an incredibly harsh second yellow for the former.

A possible return for Cunha could boost our once more toothless attack. Dawson could return to the squad, Bellegarde and Hwang are still a few weeks away, Neto a few more.

Our record at Turf Moor isn't great of late, our last victory there being in March 2010. We could do with a win though to prevent our season fizzling out, if we play like we did in spells against villa we could nick it, an early goal would be nice! An ugly 0-1 to the Wanderers will do fer me.

Ha, yes but think how many more points you'd have if you hadn't so negative and down on us this season etc...

Not being negative, just realistic.

That was a reply to Cinci and his 18 pointer Boston, should've hit the reply button as you snook in between my comment and his 🙂

Sorry Goldi.

Absolutely no need whatsoever for an apology mate.

Reminds me of some heated play ground debates this when using jumpers for goal posts;
"Yyeerrrrssss gerrin"
"Nahh that's post ay it"
Always intrigued me that people could see those invisible posts and cross bars.

At secondary school they'd only let us play with a tennis ball and when it disappeared under one of the piles of jumpers and blazers they get kicked and scattered all over the place as three or four piled in

Seems that at the end of the season a new system for sustainability will be voted in. That will be an end to points deductions. Instead a club that overspends the limit will be charged a luxury tax as a percentage of the overspend

So asked to pay a large fine as a way to be penalised for overspending? Hmmm.

There is an element of nonsense about that for sure. But I suspect most clubs would choose that over a points deduction

Anything other than a points deduction works for me. No season should be decided by that means after the event, I think we can all agree on that.

I think it should remain a sporting sanction, but before they introduce any more changes they need to harmonise reporting periods so that every club is submitting at the same time and assessments for breaches in the previous period can be completed and any points deductions applied ideally before the season starts, but certainly no later than October and appeals if required finalised by December. Get a sensible and level playing field and it should work and a framework for points deductions instead of the random, ad hoc, too fudgeable so called arrangements we have now.

Financial penalties will just encourage the big clubs to factor in the fine to the spending and continue the rule breaches.

Agree with you here, financial penalties aren’t the way forward - clubs with rich owners will absorb and carry on. I’ve always thought it perverse that clubs who run out cash who are then fined for not paying players on time just get a double whammy punishment (appreciate this is a different situation)

Points deductions and (not or) transfer embargoes are a much better deterrent to the perception that clubs buy/cheat/exploit loopholes. But the punishments should be set out upfront, even if just a panel of sanctions that can be flexed. And I’m not convinced the appeals processes work either as it drags out and then tends to lead to lesser punishments so what’s the point of the original decision? Referees decision is final! (And no VAR on these types of decisions either - it won’t be clear or obvious!)
