Tesla has recently moved its self driving software from a heuristics approach (Tesla writing code to tell it what to do in any given situation) to an end to end neural net, where it learns from watching video of good driving.
This has proved to be quite the revelation, as the driving now is very human like, handling complex situations in a very natural way.
Has Tesla solved self driving? Not quite. It still requires human suoervision, Hence coming out of Beta, with it's new name being FSD supervised. But from peoples reactions and what I am seeing, Tesla is very close.
Tesla has the billions of miles of data needed, They are no longer compute constrained, and with how fast ai is progressing, I would not be surprised to see Tesla operating some sort of taxi service somewhere in America next year.
Tesla are so confident in their approach, they are now offering one months free trial for every Tesla driver in America ( not Cybertruck) and anyone buying a new Tesla must now be given a demonstration of FSD and it's capabilities.
It is not perfect, it still makes mistakes, but with all Tesla's advantages, I can see a bright future for FSD.

Oh for sure there will be issues, and I'm sure lawsuits, as an accident will happen, as they do with humans.
But data will show Ai to be far safer, and that will drive it's adoption. Any country not embracing self driving will be falling behind.

Yup, I think you are right. Be a rocky road getting there, but it’s probably the way to go

Good discussion BazYou were not wrong in what you were saying. (apart from FSD = fail bit) We were just looking at it from opposite sides of the fence.
Good stuff.

Yup, good debate, keep posting these amiga.

It is impressive, but it's ultimate challenge is having to navigate through the standard idiot inconsiderate driver.
The amount of idiots on the road is baffling. The ai will likely have more common sense than people do one day, which is depressing

Yes house. So many people who think they are great drivers, only avoid accidents because other people are doing things to make up for their stupidity.

Also, how is it going to cope with roadworkers? Who put up temp lights then fack off for half a year, leaving behind a detour that looks like a Salvador Dali Acid dream?
