the route of many problems in America that spread elsewhere began with the OJ Simpson trial
Guilty as hell, yet he was acquitted because he was black

I genuinely think this may be the worst comment I've ever seen on this site, and I signed up on the first day I think
Facking hell peks

It's atrocious, but also quite instructive. It shines a light on how a worldview that purports to be concerned with righting injustice and standing up to power has no interest in the material realities behind the world's power dynamics. Into this vacuum it inserts fantasies where everything is governed by conspiratorial forces. It's a world in which OJ Simpson's acquittal doesn't fit into a pattern of wealthy people using the resources to ensure better treatment by the justice system, but instead is offered as an alternative to the reality of shockingly disproportionate incarceration rates of black Americans, which have continued long since OJ's trial.

RR, cheers far better articulation of what I wanted to say, I appreciate other folk will have diffireng perspectives and opinions but it doesn't make them right but I do defend their right to hold them irrespective of how wrong I personally feel they are.

The guy did it, no doubt. I don't know if I can say he had a smart lawyer or the prosecutors were a dumb lot. But definitely his acquittal was symptomatic of the complexities of the jury system in a racist and racially divided society.

I only know of OJ Simpson because of Premier league years on Sky sports season 1994-1995. During the episode of that season they briefly mention his trial for like 1 minute. I think the programme Premier league years started around 2000 maybe. The coverage they show of the seasons 1992-1993 up till 2011-2012 was awesome. Ever since though the coverage has been a little disappointing.

It’s crazy what happened to OJ. He was an icon in the states universally loved and thought of as an all around good guy.
I was always watched the oilers and he was always on TV when football was on.
And then he did what he did and it turned into a circus.
Houston Rockets were in the NBA finals against the knicks mid game and they cut off mid game because the OJ bronco chase was happening 😆
That was a crazy day, drunk watching the game at a house party and then it switched to the bronco

I liked him in "The Towering Inferno" with Steve McQueen
and Paul Newman when he saved the cute little fluffy
kitty cat from burning to death.

The jury let him off because they thought it was a kids mistake
