We need a striker

There has been quite a bit of debate about our attacking line up and this a was particularly the case at the start of the season - Richy/Son left or through the middle.

At the time when Son was scoring regularly, he got the nod for most fans, with Richy from wide.

As the season progressed we now have Werner as an option, Richy now injured and Son through the middle, but we are facing different challenges, most notably a low block, even at places like Newcastle & Villa.

I have always favoured more of physical presence up top and Son from wide, although it was worked well with Son and he has scored quite a few.

But now we have a bigger sample size to look at, it is pretty obvious to me that the majority of teams will set up against like Newcastle did. Defend in numbers, press us aggressively, lots of little fouls to stop us getting away and sit in the low block and hit us on the counter.

As much as the intricate play around the edge of their box has to be an approach we have in our locker, IMO we also need the physical instinctive striker option there too.

Son cannot hold up the ball, especially in a congested final third. For all out holding the width with the wingers we take 1 of 2 options - hit the bye line (usually Werner) or come inside and play it inside (Werner & BJ). Always resulting in precision passes/cut backs which are becoming less successful with teams crowding the box knowing what we are going to try to do.

We've seen a lot of trying to walk it in, a lot of crosses which Werner or BJ (the wide players) are on the end of. At times we need to be more direct and give defences something else to worry about.

We need a finisher in there and for me he has to be able to hold the ball up effectively, have an aerial presence and the strikers instinct, hitting the right areas.

I now see this as our priority signing. Son/Werner options wide left will suffice for now, also BJ & Deki wide right. I don't expect Toney will come to us but that sort of player is exactly what we need.

I think another wide attacker, an Eze, Neto or Olise or similar isnt really what is needed right now to balance our attacking play, at least not in this window.

I would target this position as a our top priority and followed by a dynamic CM, also with some physical presence (as a side, i think we are a small team which is contributing to our set piece issues and we need more 6-footers. Kane used to be first head defending a lot of corners).
