You realise that when Dier said that Ange doesn't do any 'tactical work' he was comparing that to Conte and saying the latter was all tactical work, right?

You know, Antonio Conte, who played the same way every week last season even though we were shiiiit.

But no, I'm sure this isn't a semantical issue about what 'tactical work' means. It's not like Ange said that he thinks the only thing we do is tactical work.

Christ one Eric Dier interview and suddenly people think Ange is some faaacking dinosaur who just tells them to run about a bit and not a properly switched on coach.

If you actually think we don't do work on how the opposition set up you're a faaacking idiot.

Oh my god. How hard is this to grasp?!!!!

You've heard of the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears? There's too much, too little and "just right".

If you only do tactical work on the opposition then you're telling your team that they're to be feared and must make changes in order to win.

If you only do shape work based on your own system with little regard for how the opposition might set up, however dangerous a side they may be, you're potentially setting yourself up for a fall.

If Conte was wrong to set us up in that way, then surely Ange cannot be immune to criticism for doing the opposite.

Working hard on own shape/principles AND doing a little tactical work on the opposition is what I would consider to be "just right".

Your last point again is moot because we've heard from Ange himself and one of his former players and they've both said they don't do any tactical work based on how the opposition set up. That was the point of my post in the first place.

I tend to agree. Conte was ridiculously inflexible, and was rightly critised.

We have a manager at the opposite end of the tactical spectrum, doing the same thing!

The voices of disapproval are getting louder.

No they are not, it’s just you and a small handful still who have zero patience.

The same fans are all saying it’s his first season and he will need more time

It's weird because it seems you can't be critical AND back the manager. I think he is the right guy, he does need more time and money to mould the team in his image, but we should be free to let off steam when we see things going wrong. It doesn't mean we're anti-Ange.

good criticism is good

bad criticism is bad

our set pieces are a joke and I'll be very annoyed if it's still a problem next season

no problem criticising Ange

Sounds logical enough but I would say it's perfectly fine to criticise how open we are and how we seemingly don't learn from these capitulations. Under the umbrella of fair criticism, I think it's perfectly fine to highlight an inability to defend well on the backdrop of a seeming lack of opposition tactical awareness.

yes criticising a leaky defence is fine

suggesting it comes from not doing tactical prep for the opposition is silly

and assuming the worst about improvement after one season is just pointless. Don't see any reason to assume that we won't improve next season

Well listen, I hope you're right but I think a lot of our problems I think stem from a lack of required personnel to make the system work and that will require a lot of money to get right. If the system isn't going to change then the players have to.

Probably fourth as well, but at least you did it in style, getting battered by Arsenal and Chelsea as per
