Can 5th place still get top 4?

Hi all,

I've seen it said on here all season that 5th place will get top 4 in the PL this season. Is that still possible or what needs to happen for 5th place to get top 4 in the PL this season now?

yea we were relying on City and Villa going through and may be Arsenal Liverpool WHU avoiding defeat, even if they went out.

But now City & Arsenal are out, we need a miracle at the East London Community and Car Boot Sale Stadium and for Klopp's mentality monsters to man up.

It actually doesnt matter which of the 7 English clubs go through, we just needed at least 2 to progress and preferably win

It’s done Devon - West Ham are 2 down and so can’t just sit back and counter tonight, they will have to attack Leverkusen and leave spaces at the back. They have Paqueta suspended also. The only faint glimmer is Leverkusen having a hangover from winning the league - but I can’t see Alonso allowing that - they have a real chance of winning a treble if Liverpool do go out and they can rest players in the league now.

Liverpool - they are capable, they have form for it, but they’ve just lost at home to Palace. It’s more likely than West Ham though.

Villa - that game is on a knife edge, it’s only 2-1 and they are away tonight to a decent Lille side.

No way we have 2 English sides in euro Semis - I’m calling it

No. There will never be a time when 5th is in the top 4

They need to change the name from Champions League, which clearly it isnt, to something more inclusive of all top 2, 3, 4 or even 5 qualifying clubs in all the various european 1st division leagues.

I suggest someting like European Super League. Along those lines anyway.

I don't see why people doubt English teams' chances in Europe so much. Better finishing from City and a bit more tactical experience from Arsenal, then you wouldn't be saying it would never happen as it would actually be extremely likely. Fans are so fickle. There is every chance it does happen next season.

How can fifth get fourth, unless fourth then get fifth? It's drivel.

New rule brought in for this season where in the top 2 highest performing leagues, they get an extra top 4 place, so 5th place gets top 4. It's not rocket science.

It's ludicrous either way, AT MOST European places should go to the top 2 teams of each league.

Yes, but then would 3rd get top 2?

I like this thread...........I can't understand it!

Yeah but your still getting to grips with shoe laces to be fair

Trues, I can't tie my shoe laces....
so I wear shoes that don't have laces

What is the current state of play?
Italy has secured a top two place and one of the extra places, with Germany needing just 0.488 coefficient points to seal the second place, or two wins; or a win and two draws.

England now have only one semi-finalist remaining, so Villa will have to win the UECL, and all three matches, and hope Germany completely fail in the semi-finals, to make up ground on the Bundesliga.

How many times have you done this joke now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's only a joke after City and Arsenal both went out. Before that, 5th place getting top 4 in the PL actually looked very realistic and some people were saying it was almost guaranteed. Don't see where you are getting a joke from.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pre QF draw, Englands chances were 92% - that draw knocked it down to 69% immediately, bar Liverpool it was the worst possible draw. This morning our chances are like 5% - Liverpool and West Ham need to turn their ties around.

What will help England next year is having fewer sides in Europe - this means the points will not be divided by an extra side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mathematically fifth spot gone now
