Derby County 2 - 0 Carlisle United

DERBY COUNTY v CARLISLE UNITED League 1 #46

Saturday 27th April 2024, 1230 Pride Park Stadium, Derby

So, here we go with what SHOULD be the last Match Thread of the year. Could I just say thanks for your comments, appraisals, critical observations and downright twattery for the 2023-24 season. Oh, and also my contract is up for renewal in the summer...

I'm getting a little bit sceptical about the game on Saturday. I was there on the grassy knoll and I feel a bit uneasy that Peterborough lost to Cheltenham on Tuesday night. Its no beef for them to lose heavily against Bolton on Saturday and if we don't produce the goods v Carlisle, then this will not be the last Match Thread of 2023-24.

Lots of things are being discussed on this DCFC board, so I thought I'd pull it all together on to one thread. Not least the shocking cheating against our cousins on the Dark Side by the PGMOL who have now disgracefully bowed to Notts pressure.....

Saturday is a sell out for the home faithful but if you still need to go, buy a ticket in the away end and take your chances.

It worked out OK last Saturday - just - as at 3.39pm, a strikingly handsome man danced a jig on Tower Bridge Road to the general bemusement of several members of the public.

Can we do it just one more time because I'm running out of cliches, metaphors, analogies and pearls of wisdom for this season?

View - hopefully signing off xxx

And stay off the pitch

Team: Wildsmith (GK), Wilson, Bradley, Cashin, Bird, Collins, Mendez-Laing (C), Smith, Sibley, Adams, Nelson

Subs: Vickers (GK), Hourihane, Barkhuizen, Elder, Washington, Thompson, Blackett-Taylor

A question for the exiled rams in here;

Do you feel you miss a little affinity with all things DCFC living away? The reason I ask this, is her indoors is Czech and is always dreaming about living outside of Derby and UK in general (I know, rude!) but I feel like I'll lose a bit of the connection/buzz watching from afar...

Not exiled but moved to London seven years ago once I married ' her indoors ' as a football fan it is difficult to follow them and get to matches unless you have you have the time.

Being overseas obviously makes that even harder. I lived across Europe in the 00s and it was difficult to follow Derby back then as the internet wasn't quite flowing with the data it is now. At least in this day and age you do have better opportunities to follow your club and depending where you'll be based ( should you decide to take the plunge) you should still be able to watch matches online.

I'd definitely recommend the opportunity of moving abroad....whether that's short term or long term will obviously have a big impact on the heart strings with the family and friends you leave behind but more importantly your beloved club!

It was a tough watch seeing the promotion celebrations and not being in the city and do a pub run with you fellow Derby mates.

Where do you have in mind to move to?

Hi Browny and welcome to these esteemed and renowned boards!

I emigrated to Chicago in 2005 to get married. It was difficult but the pull of the future Mrs C won out over things DCFC and Derbyshire. Of course I miss it all plus family and friends but I now have new family and friends over here and I can watch all the games live on Rams TV or sometimes via ESPN Plus. It's not the same as being there but pretty darn close. The cost of the subscription is well worth it.

If you do emigrate (and I'm sure the Czech Republic, for example, is a great place to be) you could well end up preferring your new country. You could of course join Heb and boost the fan base up there!

And there is always Zoom or Skype for seeing family etc.

Thanks for the comments Desi and Chicago, I always find it interesting to hear other people's journeys and experiences.

She changes her mind daily, sometimes it's Spain, then it's Costa Rica - I think she craves warmer weather!

I’m from Nottingham originally and not from Derby, went to Uni at 18 and then lived down south until moving abroad 20 years ago in my late 30s. Never had the pull of seeing the Rams week in week out as it wasn’t practical so it has never been that important to me even though I started supporting them from the age of 7. But now I am more engaged with them than ever and see every game and my young sons are taking an interest even from here. This forum is a great help too.

I would say if you never want to leave Derby just because of the team then you’re missing out on a life experience even if it’s just for a while. You will be able to keep involved, just differently.

I'm not an exile as such. Grew up near Hayfield in the High Peak and left at 18 (army) and never really returned. Visited Derby once as a cub, peered at the BBG, and bought a scarf. Never even seen a live match or considered another team. Derby 606 and the threads are brilliant. 🐏 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Feel we need to raise a GoFundMe page for Heb and get him over to experience Derbados, the match experience, the pub experience and finally the kebab experience.
