They may have to sell him to balance their books. In terms of a sale he is pure profit on the books due to being an academy player. 35m I reckon would do it in the summer.

Our current midfield is not as strong as we need to go to the next level. I'm sorry to say Maddison is a disappointment. And Bentacur is not a strong man. Pappe Sarr is good attacking midfielder, but again is not the strong man in the middle that controls the game.

Gallaher is such a player, which is why Aussieglue is after him.

Gallagher has said his "best position is as a box-to-box midfielder [...] I can play deeper and I can play attacking as well", and was described by Lee Bowyer, his manager at Charlton at the time, as "an all-round midfielder. His work-rate is unreal, he puts his foot in for tackles and he can also see a pass".Patrick Vieira likened Gallagher's style of play to that of former players Ray Parlour and Frank Lampard, who was Gallagher's idol while he was growing up.

I've not watched the player myself as I do not watch Chelsea. Based on the above, I'd say 50 Mil GBP is a bargain.

Let’s say we sell Hojberg but keep Bentancur and Bissouma (I wouldn’t mind Biss being sold if a decent offer came in) and we finish 5th.

So we’re trying to get closer to that next tier of football clubs - I’d say we’re pretty much on par with Villa. Is Gallagher going to get us closer to Liverpool, Arsenal, City? If the answer is no, what’s the point?

Also, would he play the 8? Because (IMO) we need a proper No.6 who can protect the back 4 but also get our attack started from deep. I’m pretty sure he’s not that guy. So we would have Bents, Biss, Sarr (not really sure where he fits in as he’s not really a 6 and currently a bit wasteful with the ball as an 8 - should get better in that respect though, lots of potential) and then throw in Gallagher.

We know we wont address all our areas of need this summer because we never do, so if it’s a choice between a really good No.6 that goes straight in to the team and another 8 to add to plethora we already have, I’d go 6.

Also, reading the comments in this thread, it looks like his main attributes are being able to run a lot, being English (important I know) and being reasonably priced. Being able to run around a lot and being reasonably priced seem to be two qualities our fans look for in players. Also being a “useful squad player” - our squad has been full of players you’d count as “useful squad players” for 5 years+.

If Gallagher is the one, then Ange has got to shift more than Hojberg, he’s probably got to choose between Bissouma and Bentancur. I’d say Bents deserves next season to show what he can do - Bissouma has had two seasons and he’s been good for about 15games.

It all depends on ambition. Ange says he wants to challenge for the title - I want us to. Is Gallagher getting us closer? Maybe, but we know he would be THE signing if its £50mil. I couldn’t see just adding Gallagher to our midfield getting us closer to those above us - a Top No.6 would I think.

I just get the feeling Gallagher would be one of those players, like Hojberg, that people would be frustrated with in a year’s time.

I think Bissouma would be much better played further up the pitch as the 8 btw

Get a No.6 and you may well get a better version of Bissouma as an 8 and then you don’t need Gallagher anyway

Thought the whole thing was, that they now want to sell him !?!?

Decent player but it feels like signing him would be just to get the home grown quota up rather than servicing a real need within the squad. It's not an 8 we need badly, it's a capable 6.
