Here are my top 5:
1. Alex Ferguson - the Don. Simply the best. The way he kept himself at the top for 20 years is amazing. Can't see anyone else doing it. Did it by using a lot of youth players too.Saw off numerous challengers along the way.
2. Pep Guardiola - an outstanding coach. Comes across as a bit intense at times but is record is crazy good. There's a bit of a question mark over him with regards to the 115 charges over City but you cannot escape from his genius in getting his teams to play dominant football.
3. Arsene Wenger - the professor. This was a close run thing with him and Jose for third (spoilers for 4th now!) but he changed the landscape when he came to the PL in the mid 90s. His rivalry with SAF was unmatched in PL times.
4. Jose Mourinho - the special one. The early PL Jose was just a pure winner and oozed charisma. He was probably past it when he returned to the PL but he still managed to win one more as well as win a treble with United.
5. Claudio Ranieri - there's clear daylight between the top four and the rest but just can't see past Ranieri for what he did for Leicester in 2016. Unbelievable. Also, did pretty well at Chelsea too IMO.
What say you?

Can you really have Fergie, Jose and Pep in there, considering they all bought their league titles as cheque book managers?
Ranieri has the best achievement.

Class of 92 days hello.
The greatest achievement in the history of English football to win all what we did, including a then unprecedented treble, with 6 lads from our academy in the team.
This is why he will always be number one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Greatest achievement in the history of English football is a big shout.
Personally I'd go with Clough taking over a Forest team that finished 16th in the old 2nd division, getting them promoted, winning the league, winning the European Cup, then retaining it. All within 5 years.

Spent a fortune, world record for a GK in Shilton, British transfer record on Francis...

How about the top 5 English PL managers? I've ordered by success
5th - Edward Howe. Didn't win any titles but did well at Bournemouth.
Joint 5th - Sam Allardyce. Kept some crap teams up
Joint 5th - Redknapp. Got a team into the top 4 once I think
Joint 5th - Roy Hodgson. Fulham finished mid table
Joint 5th - Neil Warnock. Was around for a while
Who do you think had the greatest achievement as an English manager in the English Premier League?

Just wait until Southgate arrives at United next season. He'll put these guys to shame.

Hard to argue with the list. Shame Klopp misses out, not only had he faced the toughest competition, but in many ways he’s better than some other guys. But one PL isn’t enough.

Klopp for Ranieri all day, and I hate Liverpool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ranieri won the league with lowly Leicester. Klopp FAILED to win the league on several occasions with one of the best team of players ever in the PL. Ending up with only 1, the same as Ranieri's miracle.
Dalglish, Conte, Ancelotti, Pellegrini, Mancini should even be in there ahead of Klopp.
Just recency bias from you.
Maybe if they did a carling cup version he'd make top 5.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool were the 2nd best team on the planet and were the only side that could go to toe with Peps Man C, losing by just a point a couple of times. Ranieri was dreadful the following season and it was Pearson who had signed the majority of that winning squad.

The ops list is fair and looks right, can’t let recency bias cloud the arguments

This is an interesting discussion, worth a thread all of it's own. Fwiw, I think it could go something like Fergie, Dalglish, Moyes, Rodgers, Di Matteo, Lampard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Di Matteo was terrible...inherited a team that won a CL & FA Cup...the former was against all odds too beating BM in their own back yard...but within months he was out of a job also failed at Villa & hasn't been near a decent job since.

Three seasons before Leicester won the title was the Hogg-Deeney goal. Let that sink in. Going from despair to winning the premier league in that short amount of time.
I'm still taking Klopp above Ranieri though

Guardiola is top - & it's not close.
They also met in two CL finals & Ferguson got pumped by Guardiola each time.
