Varane's leaving

Not the best kept secret but its now official

https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/raphael-varane-announces-departure-from-man-utd

His injury problems are such a shame, but probably a big reason why Madrid let him go in the first place. Apart from a wobbly spell earlier this season, he has by and large been excellent whenever he's played.

It's not how we should act but, at the moment, I think I'd take us signing a few honest good pros who see us as a step up and hope they can guide the talented youngsters we have. Try to be ready for when Pep goes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you mean by good homest pros ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We've seen smaller teams outplay us. Supplement the talented players we do have with those kind of players. At least they'd see us as their pinnacle.

Is that how I want us to operate? No! Beggars can't be choosers though!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Swap.our better players for lesser players?. How.will that help?

Formations are pretty irrelevant. I wouldn't even say we play a 4-2-3-1. That's how Sky line us up pre-match, but at pretty much no point in the 90 minutes are we actually set up that way.

As for getting rid of Bruno - it would indeed be a mistake.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we get 1 more year out of Bruno maybe 2.

However this summer may be the final chance to get some decent money for him so that may come into the thinking of INEOS perhaps.

I'd be surprised if he leaves with so many others more likely to be going.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where has even a hint of Bruno leaving come.from?

Like most teams, we're not really anything. 'Formations' are entirely fluid and the way we're set up is dependent on a combination of who the opposition is, whether or not we have the ball and whereabouts we are on the pitch.

Our problems out of possession don't really stem from a set formation, because we don't play with one. It's more to do with how we press and the gaps we end up leaving around the pitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree that formations are fluid, BUT how players press, is surely influenced by managerial instructions..

..............

We will have to agree to disagree. It is also down to the type of player out on the field.

If you play with only two proper midfielders in today's game you will more often than not get over run.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have to agree here.

How is a player labelled a Def, Mid or forward if not based on where on the pitch they predominantly play?

Casemiro has been no worse than the majority of our players His demise has been greatly overstated I think.

I'd be happy to see him next season, in a different system, with better teammates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Give it up man. Djemba Djemba would be an upgrade.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nonsense. And you know It, deep, deep down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s a poor player now.

He isnt though.

Yes, he looks unfit, but that's a combination of carrying knocks, and being over stretched by our tactics.

So you understand that a manager would instruct his other players where to go (formation) when others are pressing
