I don't think the microscope was needed, really. There was a few high profile decisions that people cried about but it's not like every game there was blatantly wrong decisions. It's a contact sport at the end of the day, you can't remove subjectivity. You just move it off the TV. It's so banal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That ref in the Chelsea V Barca game when he didn't give all those pens will happen alot more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Watched some highlights of that game recently. Turned into an urban myth as the actual 'penalties' were nothing at all except for perhaps one. Even Barca got shafted on one decision. But the internet and all that trying to make it an infamous game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There were two pens not given. Shirt pull on Drogba and a Barca player raising his hands when Ballack shoots.

The Antony Gordan incident emphasises my point. Nice to hear a player who likes the idea. At the end he says either get rid or get better.
It's actually easier to in this situation to get better because the mistakes they are making are awful. Just awful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't see the link cos of location but is he talking today?? Facker dived. Yeah there's contact but it's never a pen
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Amrabat challenge inside the box? Pen all day. His sock is ripped and his ankle is grazed lol.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair dos I just watched it again, he catches him. But that kinda proves my point. It's a collision in a contact sport - you're gonna get those where a referee decides it's not a foul but others think it is. You're not gonna fix that unless you change the rules. Then you really are ruining the sport in pursuit of correctness
----------------------------------------------------------------------
VAR can fix that incident without changing the rules. VAR needs to correct their mates more often to prove it can work and the correct decision is made. It's so simple.

Sorry but
You're talking about var as if it's not just another referee in a room

FWIW I agree with the mythical var bot that makes every decision that no one disagrees with instantly. Like goal line tech

I just don't get the short termism of thinking disposing with VAR will make everything better. I just don't think it will in the long run.

And you will probably get another team like Wolves in the future who wants to put VAR back on the table when it all goes pete tong for them.
But looks like we could be heading for a VARxit anyway..

I agree, I don't think it will make everything better. But it will address something that's making football worse right now

Actually if AI and machine learning continues at the pace it has recently, we could probably have an actual var bot in a few years

VAR or no VAR, Varpool will still be given several ridiculously soft penalties every year
