Not sure if that is true, but it's easy to find yourself not at the top and regularly winning trophies, and suddenly winning anything becomes a more significant feeling.

Maybe it is a touch easier to cope with losing a final if you are used to winning trophies regularly, but no-one likes the feeling of losing.
