Erm, had it been MY logic, then surely I would have expressed sentiments to that position as an extension of that logic. What YOU offered was YOUR skewed view of the world.
"Technically you still live in Britain , no matter what you say or believe."
I think I live on a small island about 486km long by 230km wides surrounded on all sides by seas and oceans. That island is called Ireland. This island is populated by an indigenous population of people who would overwhelmingly describe themselves as Irish. These pervasive self-declaring Irish types, have a quite cohesive cultural identity including shared languages, dance, sports, familial groupings[clans], strong socio-community structures, similar education settings, common religions and indeed an extensive history. There are even significant shared genetic traits, i.e. the predominance of red hair. [90-95%] of the worlds redheads originate in Ireland and Scotland.
You see I know who I am. I wonder do you know who you are? If not I hope that whatever it may be is not lost to you in some future "technicality".
I see clearly that you have not taken the opportunity to explain how Shay Given is so different from Darron Gibson such that these two men should not be considered of the same nation?

Think you will find there is 2 countries on this island. Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland , so whatever way you decide to dress it up , the fact still stands. Whether any of us likes or dislikes this for whatever reason , it is still a fact.
Thanks for the Wikipedia-esque history lesson there.

Alex, why are people from Northern Ireland allowed Irish passports? Allowed to declare for Ireland in all sports?
You are a decent poster and as far I've seen as fair as it gets. Throwing mud over the fence doesn't make the situation any better.
Ireland is a complex spot with a long history and sad stories but the sooner all factions come to agreements the quicker we can catch up with the rest of Europe.
Northern Irish protestants have an afinity to Scotland (who themselves want to devolve from the Union) but are Irish just the same.
A one Island parliament where everyone has a voice and with modern media and technologies the past indiscretions won't ever happen and all policies will be transparent. I know its a long way off but its the only way forward.

The Terms of the Good Friday Agreement and the backing of the CAS have put this issue to bed
As controversial as my theory seems i believe that players in the North who have an allegiance to the ROI side will opt for the ROI if they believe they are actually good enough to play for the Republic side.
The others who don't harbour these ambitions (Mc Court, Mc Ginn etc.) will instead opt for NIreland. Purely as an oportunity to play International Football and help further their careers at club level.

Thanks for the compliments Hosed. To yourself and Robbie, I wasnt refering to the sporting aspect of the situation as i know about the GFA/CAS , as i have said in previous posts , people can choose to play for whoever they like.
What i was refering to was Cindy's refusal to simply acknowledge that Northern Ireland simply exists (and is part of Britain as we speak). Now whether he or anybody else wishes it didnt is another story for another time. But doesnt change the fact that it exists. Thats it .

Alex I know you want Ireland to do well tonight, I think Shen does also (maybe begrudingly) but Barry is doing the proddy equivilent of the rosary hoping they get beat...
What would you say the percentage of friends and peers that would want an Irish victory? maybe 15% - 20%?
Not a great analogy but 100% of Irish people wanted Darren Clarke to hold on for the Open......
Football/Soccer seems to be the sport of division, would you agree?

Darron Gibson of Derry and Shay Given from Lifford [20 milles away from Derry] such that they should consider themselves to be of a different nation,
-----------
Paul-Henri Mathieu, french tennis player born in strasbourg, France, 16 miles from kehl germany, does this make him german??
Northern irish people should play for northern ireland, the southerners should play for the republic of ireland. It isnt rugby, the nations arent united, deal with it.

I think you could be right hosed. If he starts making comments criticising Gibson and talking up the likes of Cathcart and Corry Evans then i'll know its him for sure !!
