Don't know if there's much interest, but somebody on my movies thread suggested doing similar for best songs.
I've done a lot of work on this too, and in my opinion 5 songs really is impossible for the 60s-90s. It would need to be 10 per decade for each of those, and I can do those in a separate post.
As a warm up for that main event, this post is for all other decades, so:
**********2020s**********
**********2010s**********
**********2000s**********
**********1950s**********
**********pre1950s******
Remember, it's 5 per decade/period.
No classical music, no opera, just modern popular music (ragtime onwards)
Also it needs to be a recorded version released as a single or on an album (including online). No live versions unless that was the official released version of the song.
Top 5 songs per decade (excluding 60s-90s)

Do they have to be sung, or do instrumentals count?
