Funny enough, just as I ask this: "Isn't the term 'tyranny of the majority' just a nice way to say fvck democracy?" here: https://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/462527
Barney Ronay posts an article on the guardian here:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jun/05/manchester-citys-trumpian-tactics-spotlight-autocratic-creep-in-football
At pretty much the exact same time as my question!
I hadn't read Barneys article until just now (gone 10pm) but find it a nice coincidence in terms of timing.
An excerpt of Ronays article says:
"Then there’s the dreadfully tin-eared phrase “tyranny of the majority", used here to describe that most tyrannical of things, democracy. In its proper context John Stuart Mill’s quote is supposed to describe a state of mob rule, where no institution regulates the urges of the herd. Not so much the richest guy at the table failing to get his way in a boardroom vote"
Glad it's not just me that thinks City's owners do not want fairness but full control of the Premier League. Citys owners don't want to win the Premier League, they want to effectively own it and run it.
This line tyranny of the majority has been on my mind since one of the city bosses have said it. And it just makes things clear as say as to what they want to see happen. Full control of the Premier League
Tyranny of the majority

In the decade from 2009 to 2019, the big clubs all enjoyed a healthy rise in commercial revenues.
Arsenal: £48m to £111m (131%)
Chelsea: £53m to £185m (249%)
Liverpool: £68m to £186m (174%)
United: £70m to £280m (300%)
City: £18m to £230m (1177%)
The Deloitte Football Money League of 2024 shows that City had commercial revenues of £340m in 22/23. This means they have comfortably overtaken United (£302m) and are now way ahead Arsenal (£167m), Chelsea (£206m) and Liverpool (£254m).

It's time to relegate City and ban them from the EPL.
Let them rot.
They're anti-democracy so therefore anti-British.

City were up for joining the European Super League along with these so called tyrannical clubs when it suited them. When you're a crown prince and deputy PM of a nation and are not used to being told no or to abide by democratically elected rules.
City's owner can either put his expensive toys back in his pram or go and play somewhere else.

I stopped reading anything Ronay spews out years ago.
Master of clickbait, bordering on a troll.

Guardian football coverage generally crap. You have to remember they were leading proponents of Joey Barton as the thinking man’s footballer. Barney Ronay is a teat, Jermaine Jackson and Johnathon Leiw not much better.

Their best 100 player lists are embarrassingly bad. Seemingly a lot of them have absolutely no clue about the sport they wrote about
