The thoughts and support of everyone at Liverpool FC are with our legendary former captain Alan Hansen, who is currently seriously ill in hospital.
A defender of the utmost elegance, Hansen’s outstanding raft of honours across a 14-year spell with the Reds – he joined from Partick Thistle in 1977 – included eight league titles, three European Cups, two FA Cups and three League Cups.
‘Jocky’, as he was known by teammates, is in the top 10 for all-time appearances for the club having played 620 matches, and the Scottish centre-back also served as Liverpool skipper for four seasons.
The club is currently in contact with Alan’s family to provide our support at this difficult time, and our thoughts, wishes and hopes are with Alan and all of the Hansen family.
Not sure if this is a get well soon statement or preparing for the worst. Either way, hope he pulls through whatever he is ill with

Fear the worst when the club are announcing it as they have done. Always came across as a really decent guy. His footballing ability shouldnt even need commented on. Guy couldve played in any era and been top class.
Really sad news.

I've met him a few times here and there, he's as class off the pitch as he was on it. Hope its not the worst news.

Get well Alan, my favourite pundit by far. A great player, and a decent golfer, we saw him sometimes when we came over for a game.
As you get old you will find it odd when your heroes die. Which in this case he hasn't, and hope he doesn't.

Hope he has a swift and complete recovery. Great defender for a team I totally disliked!
No greater compliment than that, really.
Underrated as a pundit too.

I’ll never forgive him for conning my parents into buying me some bull boys shoes, but I wish him a speedy recovery.
