Would Southgate be that terrible?

There's a lot of noise around that Southgate is in with a shout of being our next manager. To be honest it seems an underwhelming choice but, if it did happen (I don't think it will), would it be that terrible?

Southgate doesn't have a great record in club football but, for England, I'd say he's done par for the course, if not a little bit better. His average tournament finish is semi-final and he has managed to get players from different clubs to blend quite well together and fostered togetherness within the England camp.

If we translate par into what United should be doing then that would be Top 4 and I don't think we're in any position, at present, to be snobbish about becoming latter day Wenger Arsenal.

Is that where we want to be? No, not really, but possibly as a stepping-stone manager he wouldn't be the worst choice.

What say you?

It might be best to wait until United hace had a full season on Brailsford's jiffy bags before making any big changes. Klopp n Pep didn't get Liverpool and City bouncing off the walls right from the first minute either.

So everyone is doping except Madrid. Right.

To answer the question in the title: Yes.

International coaching in the modern era is quite different from coaching at a club, let alone at the top. Nd while Southgate might appeal to the English players, he won't have that pull for the foreign players. And the last time he coached a club was so long ago, it would end up as another Ralf Rangnick type of situation. If Southgate comes in, he won't last the season.

It’s where we really need to improve to catch up with City and Liverpool, to be the joint pediest.

Where did I say that? Doping's rife in elite sport.

Madrid just juice more intelligently, which is why they don't tank like some northern crackhead every other year.

Well City are pretty good at that too. Your lot go way over the top.

Probably. The fact he hasn’t managed in club football for 15 years and was never that good either is a massive red flag.

He might be alright in the sense of steadying the ship while some people who are competent at recruitment revamp the squad behind the scenes.

I don't think he'd really take you very far forward though.

If we get Southgate then it’ll likely be off the back of England having a poor euros (If England have a good one he’ll probably stay until the World Cup).

So his goodwill he’s built up to this point as England coach will be damaged as he’ll be seen as more of a failure than if we appointed him 2 years ago. And that might, apart from the fact he’s Gareth bloody Southgate, lose him fan confidence if we start the season with a couple of losses.

This was more in case rather than anything else. I always did have a feeling ETH would stay the longer it went on.

Where does this come from when ETH was never going to be sacked and confirmed to stay on the same day?
