I see Brighton have appointed

Hurzeler (who he?) as their new coach.
You can bet that as Brighton have got him he will be the next big thing in managers.
We will probably sign him up after Southgate.

Very good appointment. His teams play top level football and he’s probably someone we should’ve spoken to about replacing ETH.

Life goes on I guess but fair play to Brighton. He’s a class manager.

I am still struggling to see what all the j!zz was about over De Zerbi.

I think De Zerbi is a quality coach. The football they played until all the injuries hit them was first class. They look so well drilled and coached.

Losing likes of Mitoma for more than half the season really hurt them as well as their smaller squad being stretched due to European games.

I'm not convinced he's ready for the Utd job but I do think he's an excellent coach.

...........

They looked exactly the same as they did under Potter. They played possession football without any end product.

They absolutely battered us a few times. The game at the start of the season at OT I seem to remember them making 6 changes because of a European fixture and they still wiped the floor with us.

As I said not sure if he's ready for the madhouse which is the Utd job but I do like the way they play football.

What's strange about De Zerbi is he stepped down without a concrete offer on the table. There was a lot of links to the Napoli job but they went with Conte in the end.

Maybe he's just having a year out though. Who knows.

So did most teams last season. You should know.

That's true. 😂

Still think you're being a tad harsh though. He didn't exactly have a huge budget to spend and had some of his best players sold again as is the Brighton way of buying cheap and selling big.

Probably see him on a similar level to big Ange. Not quite ready for a job like ours but there's potential there for sure.

We will have to agree to disagree.

De Zerbi had quite a reputation based on the work he'd done before Brighton, and he did take them up a level from Potter's team last season, with some absolute thumpings of much better sides than 2023/24 United. He also earned the admiration of Guardiola, which I think speaks for having some real substance to his talent. This season as well as injuries we're seeing the limitations of a business model that relies on constantly selling their best players and hoping the cheap/home-grown replacements are just as good. Brighton probably had a par season based on the quality of their squad.

One thing I would say is that he's good at coaching elaborate build-up patterns that can be hard to counter, but once in a while a team figures out how to stop them and it usually results in a humbling. DZ doesn't seem to be great (yet) at pragmatic adaptation.
