It means he works there. Therefore if you have two players who are best on the left, then you use the one who has worked on the left over 80 times.

As I said before, the individuals are not the issue. Taking away their natural technical abilities, space and creativity is the issue.

Agree of you're going to play this way then those players shouldn't play but for me that's stupid. It's not like you can transfer players in and out of your preferred system, like club football. You create a system to suit your players.

It's not surprising as when playing in the safe system, where the technical players are used to have players passing and moving around, creating space and runners, Saka is able to use his pace to create space, even in a defensive set up.

Best in the middle*

It does baffle me that Southgate, and his fanboys like Gary Lineker, think they know better than Jurgen Klopp when it comes to Trent, or Pep when it comes to Foden. I completely agree with the Gerrard Lampard Scholes analogy.

At the time one of Gerrard or Scholes had to play in the left was due to tactical rigidity also. Other teams were playing with three in the middle, one of or both of Gerrard or Scholes could have sat deeper with Lampard further ahead but instead the system was set and the players had to fit into it. Also the fact England had no decent left sided player until Joe Cole solved the issue.

Making changes wouldn't solve the problem. It would look great against Slovenia I'm sure but then it will be the same issue in the next round. The top teams are controlling games, stretching the opposition, creating space.

Of course what will happen is Southgate will make changes, there will be a more attacking game naturally as it's Slovenia, the problem will then be claimed to have been solved and those players that came in will stay in, only to have the same issues against a stronger side, in the next round.

I'm not a massive Shaw fan but we miss his runs up the left and natural width. Chilwell should have been picked given Saw's injury and now we're seeing why.
One thing that pi..ed me off last night more than any other is the reluctance to go over the top. Even before the goal Saka failed to do so and it took Walker to have the balls to do it. Denmark played pretty high in that first half and we should have taken advantage.
But 4 points and slovenia to come. Win that, have a relatively easy last 16 game and see where we are then!

England are fecked as long as Southgate is in charge. I don't think anything will change that. Out as soon as we meet a half decent team in the knockout phase.
