6. Rice 8. Bellingham 10.Foden

Does Southgate have the balls to play this trio in the middle?

Slovenia are a poor team. We are almost certainly qualified. We have failed with TAA in the middle and Foden left. We must try this line up.

I think it needs to be tweaked at the back. Trippier is not working and I would rather see someone like Konsa there with an attacker like Gordon ahead of him.

Konsa can be naturally more defensive. Stones should step up into midfield from time to time as he does with City. Walker to also play more of his City role, so effectively Walker Guehi & Konsa holding a back 3 when in possession, Stones alongside Rice, Bells & Foden more advanced.

All of this needs to happen further up the pitch. Less space from front to back allowing for higher press which either delivers quicker ball recovery or buys time for the defence & mids to find a good shape when we're out of possession.

We may be a bit more exposed from time to time but lets play to our strengths

Yet you think they would sack Southgate after 2 games and almost certain qualification . That was the daft hypothetical I was replying to...

I don't think that

It's all hypothetical isn't it? I'm sure you don't really think they would get rid of Redknapp after 1 game either.

No, they wouldn't give him a game due to the dirt on him, same reason Clough never got a go.

Exactly. They should but they won't because they are clueless and inept like the manager.

I thought Rice was terrible 2nd half yesterday playing the holding role when TAA went off. I know he has put in great performances there from West Ham, England and even Arsenal but this current England set up leaves him completely exposed off the ball, and with very little options on the ball.

Leaving him in the holding roll by himself against the bigger teams will only end one way imo. I would consider bringing Wharton in to the team for TAA and putting him in a 3 man midfield with Bellingham.

Foden and Saka can’t play in the same team, simple as that. Pick one of them to play on the right and put Gordon/Eze on the left. With England almost certain to have qualification wrapped up before the Slovenia game, Safegate won’t have a better opportunity to grow some balls and give Foden a ‘rest’.

Allow Stones to play back 4 and DM like he does at City, he is more than capable and we don't need 2 full time DM's. That way Foden and Bellingham can play AM with Gordon on the left. Rice should be able to cover DM alone when Stones drops back. Ok, he isn't Rodri's class but Slovenia aren't exactly as good as Arsenal or Liverpool either.

I think the problem comes from the spaces between front and back. High press like any modern team and Rice is much closer to his colleagues and covering less open space.

Any DM left on his own within a half press and a back line that drop-off will have too much work to do.

There are times when you need 2 dm minded players and even city go Rodri and Kovacic at times.

The reason i suggest a more attacking line up is that it puts out best players, POTYs in their leagues, in their best position. We cannot start Foden on the bench and have Wharton on as DM in the next game.

Again...WTF has Southgate been doing for 2 years. Mid tournament and we're are looking at setups that haven't been tried before and selections/combinations that also have not been tried. Mainoo and Wharton have about 3 hours experience of international football between them.

TAA should be nowhere the England starting line up, he isn`t a midfielder and can`t defend either, I don`t know what Safegate is thinking picking him

Tbf what were his other choices? 19 year old Mainoo who's had half a good season, Wharton less than that. Clearly not working though so I expect him to change it now
