Kane Vs Lineker & Shearer

I see there's a tiny bit of back and forth between the pundits and probably the England team.

The likes of Lineker and Shearer were critical of England the other night and Kane made a comment about England not winning anything for a long time so they should be a bit less critical perhaps.

Here's Kanes comments:

And here is the pundits comments:

I personally am leaning on the side of Kane. Reading his comments I thought he came across as very reasonable and sensible (so he'll never make it as a pundit).
Obviously that's a bit rich coming from me posting on a sports forum where we're all open to being critical of teams and players, but I think after so long of not winning a tournament perhaps the pundits should be a bit more careful of their wording so as not to cause a distraction?

If England were serial tournament winners then I'd probably be on the side of the pundits and think yeah they need to step up. But remembering 2010 and the noughties the pundits ripped into the 'Golden Generation' and it came to nothing. I'm not saying it's all the pundits fault thay the England team doesn't win anything but I can't see how it helps.

In this social media age the players only need to open their phones to know what fans are thinking, so why not pundits be a bit more positive?

It's their job to give their opinions and all that and I know they're supporters too, but it could be worth trying out being a bit more positive. Last thing England & Kane need is any kind of distraction right now!

I was expecting some drama here but neither kane or the pundits said anything remotely wrong.

Pundits have a duty to objectively describe a match, and I think the BBC team were spot on in describing the shortcomings of the England team. If they were indulging in personal abuse, then Kane would be justified in calling them out on failing to drive previous England teams to success. But they weren't. I suspect the England camp is a bit brittle and sensitive because it rings true.

That's some nice objective BBC coverage right there. Can't wait to see what they're saying in 10 years! The 7 year old kids growing up now not paying attention to the punditry and just enjoying kicking a ball about are in for a super fun time in the future

I think the issue is that they are so used to praise in the PL as they are generally PL based players. And when they are playing abroad then they still only get praise. These pundits are actually fans of the England team though so when England players let them down they get emotionally affected and don't just sweep it under the carpet to constantly try and portray the English players in a positive light like they do in domestic football.

You think the spawny Italians will be getting it easy this morning in the Gazzetta?

Meh, it's an entertainment industry. Can't stand the anodyne p!sh that is most of the beeb's output. Let's be honest the cutting opinion of a Souness or Keane is more realistic like what it would be down the pub but from the standpoint of having been there and done it.

In saying that the shock jock Talkscheite stuff is even worse.

Whilst I think the players are trying to win they can only do what the manager tells them. Does anyone really believe the players enjoy sitting on a 1-0? Yes, tourney football is different but still. I tongue in cheek said there should be a 6 tackle type rule in footy - do something with possession or give it up.

Harsh when you watch a Pep team constantly probing with that possession for a better result but it was in reaction to the scheite Clarke served up.
