Bielsa

Due to a favourable time zone I’ve been able to watch a few of the Copa America games when working from home these past few days and Uruguay have caught my eye in the two games I’ve seen them play. Bielsa has made them play an all out attack super fast style of play which is miles ahead of what Southgate has had 8 years to bring in 😹

Darwin Nunez looks world class, Pellistri (we should maybe sign him) is incredible on the right and Araujo is superb. Ugarte in midfield is great and the whole team work their asses off.

Anyway, it’s a shame we never saw him manage a big club in England, truly one of the best to manage in terms of how he gets teams to play when it all clicks.

A bit of a side track here, but we have now seen what Rangnick can do with a squad physically and mentally capable of a high press.

Our lot just can’t do it and you can see why ETH is hamstrung in terms of how he wants to play.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He’s had £400 million plus and two whole seasons and we’re nowhere near that kind of football. One of Rangnicks best players is Sabitzer. Ten Hag had the same player and didn’t get anything out of him. Rangnick even has Arnautovic pressing but if we bought him we’d make him look like the next Weghorst.

The really smart thing to have done would have been to trust in Rangnick and thrown £400 million his way but the club got cold feet when confronted with the truth

It would have been really interesting to see what he could have done if he had stayed on. There would have been a few joints put out of place I reckon.

Can’t? Or won’t?

(I actually think it’s a bit of both.)

Yeah, it is both. But we've had two managers try and fail with a high press because they're not fit enough and don't follow instruction.

You can't press high if you only have 2 of 3 attackers willing to do it and your defenders are so slow they feel the need to drop 20 yards.

it is amazing to see what Rangnick has done with Austria. He was truly awful at United. Reinforces the idea of United as the ultimate managerial poisoned chalice.

Is this whole article just to have a dig at Leeds?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Poor dig but it's robb after all. When Bielsa managed Leeds in the Pl we were the best watch in football that first season up.
First games taught Liverpool a lesson.
Unfortunately the ref couldn't let us beat one of the top teams.
Too bad it's all about money and not entertainment. It's why man utd will never get their primadonnas to press.

Ugarte in midfield is great and the whole team work their asses off.
---------------
We're being quite heavily linked with Ugarte at the moment, for what it's worth.

Rosso - any thoughts from his Sporting days?

Never looked as good as Palhinha to me. Maybe a bit more careful with the ball and better on it, but not nearly as strong defensively or dangerous at the business end.

Sporting seem to churn out quality midfielder after quality midfielder, and if it’s a Sporting-trained DM we’re after, I’d recommend going for Hjulmand.

Dont think you can read too much into international football. Hopefully we can at least sell Pellistri for a bit after the Copa America, don’t think he’s suited to the PL at all.
