Didn’t see that happening, cants see how they can afford his wages but I guess getting him for free gives them more money to use on wages.

I didn’t assume anything. Generally big name footballers don’t take huge wage cuts to join small clubs.

They frequently do at the end of their careers.

Perhaps he's had enough of the circus that is Man U !....
and I'm not being flippant !

We chose not to trigger his 1 year extension. He’s only 31, got plenty of years ahead if he wants, he isn't going to start taking a lower wage. Definitely good enough to play for a top Italian tram than a team that’s one of the favourite to be relegated if he does want to play there, but fair play to him.

Is Dennis Wise still at Como?

I got the feeling in his last year that Varane wasnt too interested in playing top level football anymore. He had quit international football and was frequently raising the issue of player schedules (he was rarely available himself) and advocating bans on heading.

If he wants to play for Como then so be it. Nice part of the world.

Como’s owner is worth $45b, I’m sure there are ways they can get around paying Varane handsomely if they need to.

Players don't HAVE to ask for more money than they earned previously, especially if they have previously been as well-paid as Varane.

Would be some coup for Como, and absolutely amazing for their fans.

Could I ask if someone would mind popping over to DJ’s new thread and asking him to unfilter me please? I think he must have done it by accident - we’ve never had a disagreement afaik, and I quite enjoy his summary articles.
