Independent body rules against Leicester

In unsurprising news Leicester have today lost their challenge against the Premier Leagues right to charge them last season (when they were an EFL club) for breaching PSR for the seasons they were in the EPL.

Leicester have lodged an immediate appeal but it doesn’t look as if it’s going to make any difference. If an independent commission rules against you then you really are the thinnest of thin ice.

Of course the appeal from Leicester completely stinks. Yes they may argue that by the letter of the law the EPL didn’t have the right to charge them in March - but they’re now a PL club again, so I’m guessing irrespective they fall back into the EPLs jurisdiction

All this is doing is trying to kick the can down the road and avoid what’s coming for as long as possible. What the club should be doing is fessing up, complying with the process and getting full transparency of what we have to play with going into the season

The only rod the authorities have made for their own back is in the legal drafting of the rules. To be fair to them that’s quite common across contract law but they will need to revise the wording of their rules accordingly so that clubs like Leicester stop trying to game the system by avoiding charges for legitimate breaches by claiming not to be under jurisdiction

One thing I would add is that the EFL didn’t put us under an embargo because we lodged an appeal against the EPL in March. They did so because we refused to submit a business plan (which we technically were right to do) so they forecasted we would fail to fail to comply by 30th June and put us under embargo. I believe the EFL were wrong to do that but I think the EPL have been completely right in pursuing the charges against Leicester

Let’s make no bones about it - we’re playing the system. We breached and the relegation argument is a poor one because we shouldn’t have racked up £90m worth of losses in the prior season. We were running unsustainably long before we were in danger of relegation

What we’ve since done is poor in my view. It’s not complying with the EPL, will make absolutely no difference to the final outcome other than getting nothing back for being compliant

The club have played the EPL situation poorly in my view

It's not a shock, although the club's lawyers still must think there is some merit in the club's position. Unless they are maybe trying delaying tactics to get to next season then argue that it should be a fine rather than a points deduction? It's a mess undoubtedly, although not entirely down to LCFC, there must be sufficient ambiguities in the rules to give the lawyers something to work with.

The worst situation will be if we get a points deduction later on in the season.

Just seen we’re signing Bobby De Cordova Reid on a free 😂😂😂😂

Given the state of the finances ( rumoured £50m budget) then signing BCR on a free seems perfect sense.
33 games last season for a good PL side and other sides (at least Everton & Leeds) were in for him and Fulham wanted to keep him.
For me he brings experience to the squad, and obviously Cooper is looking to strengthen us out wide.

It’s a signing that I’m laughing at because it perfectly reflects what Top has done to this club.

From Youri Tielemans, Maddison and Fofana to targeting a 32 year old journeyman from Fulham on a free

It’s a signing that’s unlikely to be anything more than very average for a club that’s going to get absolutely battered next season. Whether other skint clubs wanted him or not is neither here nor there for me

Has anyone got Ricky Lamberts number? Might as well make the most of this free transfer stuff.

Oddly enough I - like Appleton - am comfortable with this signing, just like I was with Cooper instead of someone more 'progressive' say.

It's a sad reflection of the depths to where we have sunk but it does indicate that our management may have finally got a dose of reality. I'd still like to see the back of Rudders though.

I can't claim to be particularly looking forward or being excited about the upcoming season - it could be a very depressing time for our club.

I mean look - it’s a practical signing. It’s like going to the food bank when you’ve lost your job and can’t pay the bills. It’s what you have to do - not what you want to do.

It’s not the kind of signing that is going to see us stay out of the bottom 3. It’s not the kind of quality you need in this division, but the board have killed off any alternative with their horrific mismanagement.

I don’t think this signing or Cooper represents any kind of realism. It’s what you do when you literally have no other options open. No other decent managers really wanted us and not a whole host of players will be queuing up either

Just looking through the Fulham forum for their reactions. The general opinion seems to be that BCR was a great servant for the club but time to move him on as he doesn’t really have the quality of some of their other players

Works hard, great professional, very good striker of the ball - but general consensus is they’re surprised Leicester have given him a 3 year contract and that’s why he left, because Fulham wouldn’t. Not really a great sign that we’re learning much is it? Him and Vestergaard are likely to be 2 more players we are lumped with on fairly high wages in 18 months time

One leading football financial analyst has come out this morning and said that even with the KDH sale - Leicester have breached 2023-2024 FFP “by a country mile”

So nothing to do at all with the summer of 2021 - this is the refusal to sell highly prized assets (like KDH, Iheanacho, Ndidi) etc when we got relegated in attempt to get straight back up at the first time of asking
