That is perhaps the most impressive victory of an England team ever in 90 minutes. Given the level of opposition, the gravity of the match and the fact the game is being played away from home in a stadium dominated by fans of the other team.
Southgate understands international football perhaps more than any other England manager before him. He understands that these tournaments are marathon not a sprint and that the games are chess not checkers. If the FA replace him they are making a terrible mistake. He should be given a contract to take him to 2028 when England will have a strong chance to win a tournament on home soil
Southgate just humbled his detractors

It’s not luck ffs
We won our group, and just like last time, that means an easier route to the final.
That’s literally how the competition works.

Spain won their group far more convincingly and still had to play 2 of the tournament favourites in Germany and France on their way to the final.

This. He really isn’t getting it is he?

I’m going to take a step back because honestly I think we’re both wasting our mornings here and it’s just going to descend into 3 hours of ruining this thread for everyone else.
If you’re happy with how you’ve represented your argument today - then good for you. I’m more than happy with my opinion on Southgate and England and I’ll stick with it

As I said, it's all moot if England beat Spain - in which case they'd be seen as deserving winners beating the team of the tournament. But if they lose, fack yes, everyone will attribute their run to the finals as being the consequence of a lucky draw.

Well then leave Edin alone, that poor cuuuunt has been a Spurs and England fan all his life. Introspection.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think anything I said was wrong. I mostly like Edin but he can be a pretentious bell with the best of them and his pedantic replies on the other thread fed into that.
I'm glad we went through but constructive criticism should make us better each round.

Nonsense, Southshite has got through because he has a squad that keep pulling him out of the sh&t despite his poor training & selection. The team has played one good half in the whole tournament & we were 30 seconds & a bicycle kick from going out in TOTAL ignominy.
Southshite didn’t bring a fit left back, continually selects the wrong team & formation & his substitutions have been left far too late - but if you’ve got the best squad in the tournament & the rub of the green this is what can happen.
Southshite does have strengths, he is great at creating a good basic atmosphere, has made Penalty taking practice far more professional & brown noses to the FA superbly. These are all useful qualities, but as an assistant coach, not the Manager. 🤷🏻♂️

But the difference between me and you is that I’m realistic - whereas you’re a slack-jawed w@nker that’s grateful we got through a group stage and probably has an England flag draped over your council house

Southgate made changes that most of the country said he should make - begrudgingly and very late in the tournament - and those changes worked.
I don’t see how anyone is humbled. More like vindicated.
