All time T20 XI

I was thinking after the recent World Cup, that T20 is now the pre-eminent form of cricket in many ways, and now has a history of about 21 years.

No longer is it the '3rd form' of the game. In fact, it's 100 pct replaced 50-over cricket as the No.1 white ball format. ODIs now are virtually redundant - a weird half way house between Tests and T20s.

So let's do an all-time T20 XI.

Chris Gayle - 2 World Cups; once scored 175 runs off 66 balls in an IPL game

Rohit Sharma (c) - another 2-time World Cup-winner; 6 IPL titles; 6 of these 8 titles were as captain

Virat Kohli - 1 World Cup; 2-time Player of the Tournament at the World Cup

Glenn Maxwell - 1 World Cup; arguably the most destructive player ever on his day

Andre Russell - 2 World Cups; incredible T20 all-purpose player. IPL winner and once had a strike rate of 205 in an IPL season

Kieron Pollard - The OG of T20 cricket. World Cup-winner in 2012 and 5-time IPL champion

MS Dhoni (wk) - Won the inaugural T20 World Cup as captain; 6-time IPL champion

Rashid Khan - ICC T20 Player of the Decade; led Afghanistan to their first ever World Cup semi-final

Mitchell Starc - World Cup-winner; incredible strike bowler, need a left-armer in there as well, plus can bat

Jasprit Bumrah - Spearheaded a World Cup-win with the most dominant bowling performance in World Cup tournament history.

Lasith Malinga - Another OG of T20s. World Cup-winner and multiple-time IPL champ.

What's with this obsession over IPL?

In terms of quality of the players, it’s the highest level of white ball cricket.

The World Cup & IPL are the 2 majors of T20 cricket atm, so we have to take them as the best gauge of T20 greatness.

I think Major League Cricket will become the 3rd major soon and that will be the Triple Crown of white ball.

Buttler or Warner over Rohit as an opener.

Jos averages 47 with 153SR opening.

Would probably pick AB over Maxwell too as he can be very hit and miss.

OP doesn't have a clue. Pakistan have one of the best T20 records but refuses to even nominate any. No one gives a fek about the IPL.

Buttler and Warner both good shouts tbf.

Warner in particular has been prolific in the format for a decade.

I think Jos should have plied his trade in the IPL a bit more over the years.

Pakistan do have a good T20 record, but really I can't think of individuals who should be in an all-time XI.

Maybe Babar or Shaheen in time.

IPL has been going since 2008 and most of the top players play. Apart from World Cups, how else do you judge T20 players?

Lookup Afridi and Gul. Also Ajmal.

Rashid rarely turns up in tournaments. He has a great record playing against Ireland, Scotland, Namibia etc.
