The great Ray Reardon past away yesterday evening.
A true legend of the sport, who led the way before the likes of Davis, Hendry, Ronnie etc. A great sportsman who played the game in the right spirit, and a real mater tactician of the game.
RIP

Never saw him play, but obviously a legend of the sport, 91 is a good age, wins any frame doesn't it...

RIP Ray, he was before my time but I have seen a clips of a few of his matches and he seemed like a great guy that was admired by everyone in Snooker. He also made a century break last year which is incredible doing that aged 90/91.

I grew up watching the likes of Reardon, Higgins, Spencer, Griffiths, Mountjoy etc in the pot black days. All seems a bit dated now, but for me felt like the golden era when snooker was one of the main sports on the telly and players were truly household names. Sad as we lost those greats, but what great memories they were

They showed a repeat of a documentary made a few years ago about Reardon last night on BBC - just a reminder of what a great person he was. So instrumental in helping Ronnie become the all-round player he is today.

Watched some highlights on YouTube on the 1978 Worlds where Ray beat Perrie Mans in the final. Top match, there weren't as high breaks back then but the snooker was good.
Also, saw an interview he had with Steve Davis about how he beat Eddie Charlton in Australia in the final of the Worlds. Steady Eddie choked worse than even Jimmy White in that final.

I enjoyed when talking about the final against steady Eddie. Felt great but playing rubbish, Reardon, Charlton and their wives went out that for dinner and basically got blootered. Next day Reardon felt terrible but played great
Type of story that just wouldn't happen these days
