K.P.'s bad decision

Kalvin Phillips made a big mistake leaving Leeds, he has barely played 1st team football in the las couple of years, and has lost his England place. even at West Ham he was a flop. Not sure what he's doing now ! Any feedback would be appreciated. Would be great if he came back to his home...

He’s apparently on £150k a week, would it be worth a cheeky bid of £50k a week to get him in on loan?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would we want to? I think it would be wasting £50k a week.

My view on Kalvin is that it took a genius like Bielsa to get him playing to his absolute max. Pep wanted to sign him as a vanity project to prove he was the equal of Bielsa and failed to do so. It was clear he was never good enough to play for City and it was only because of Pep's massive ego that the deal went through. KP is the single player that shows just what a giant Bielsa is as a manager.
Farke is not Bielsa so we shouldn't expect a similar miracle.
Leave well alone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
..and there's everyone thinking Pep wanted a DM/CM as an alternative to Rodri.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why didn't he sign one that could do the job rather than one that it was clear to the world and his dog couldn't.

When KP was signing on the dotted line were you thinking, great here's an alternative to Rodri. Of course you weren't. You were thinking "Pep, where the hell's your head at?".

hmm... odd one this..

KP left Leeds and got the 'dream move', and his bank account still thinks its the dream move.

Micah Richards' biggest football regret, was to turn down a massive contract at city to go for first team football and sign a contract at Villa (I think) who were relegated that season.

always makes me wonder, "the biggest mistake" ??- really?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Micha’s problem was his physique. He was a brilliant defender at the start of his career, but he is naturally heavily built, which as he got older slowed him down, and made him injury prone. I think KP still has a lot to offer, if someone can rebuild his confidence.

No, I thought here's a player who shines for both Leeds and England, it'll give Pep different options in the middle of the park or maybe he'll 're-invent' him like he did successfully with Stones, Ake and Cancelo.

Phillips had to take that opportunity, if he didn’t, he’d have regretted it for the rest of his life.

It was a bad signing by City. An odd one because normally their transfers and scouting is spot on, but with Phillips it just felt like they hadn’t watched him play enough. He was great for us but I never thought he was good enough for that top level, even as a squad player, especially in the style they play.

Agree ref Micah Kamikazi, he didn;t want to play second fiddle to Zabaleta and turned down a new (very lucrative) contract to play first team football at Villa..

Villa relegated that season... Micah not on bad wages at villa of course, but could have warmed a bench for a hell of a lot more at City... choose not to, and its his biggest regret in football.

goes to show you, brilliant decision from KP... not everything works out, and easy to cast it off as a bad decision with the benefit of hindsight

He was never going to be more than a back up to Rodri, playing in cup games and coming on to give him a rest when games were already decided. However, 2 things scuppered that plan, firstly Rodri emerged as the best DM in the world and secondly that KP just couldn't cut it at the highest level. Pity really, the guy seemed a decent bloke and didn't seem to complain.

Pep has very high standards and you either make the grade or you don't. Interestingly, he clearly didn't upset Pep who takes no prisoners (see Cancelo for further details) but you could see that his passing wasn't accurate enough, even for fans, so Pep wasn't going to accept it. Hopefully he can go back to a club like Leeds and reboot his career, I wish him luck.

I thought Pep sent a message out to his squad when he said that KP returned back from the England camp overweight. That was the turning point for him, and he couldn't get rid of KP quickly enough. He also sent out a strong message to his players that there would be no excuse for breaking the rules.
KP had pretty much blossomed under Bielsa, but I think he felt undermined by Pep, because he hasn't looked the same player since. It's very sad, for him and England, because he was a proper baller three years ago, up there with Declan Rice, but now, he looks a shadow of himself. He's a decent bloke from what we saw at Leeds, gave his all for the club. It will be very hard for him to come back from this, but I wish him the best.
