Why we love football, perhaps.

The dark ages, the period between the Romans and people learning to write.
In this period we suffered incursions from the Angles and Saxons.
They wanted our rich lands in the south of England.
The Vikings, mainly from Norway who wanted our women, children and treasure, and occasionally land.
The land was lived in and defended by Celts, apart from a Glaswegian football club, Celtic is pronounced with a k not an s.
Incidentally I live in Normandy, ie Northmen, ie Norsemen, ie Vikings.
In general the Saxons did well, seizing most of England, or Angleland as it was known.
The exception was Cornwall, and the North east where the Vikings were, with their capital at Jorvik, which became York.
The Celts kept Wales and they weren't interested in Scotland as the land wasn't rich enough
Alfred the Great made England as we know it, together with his son.
So what you may well ask.
When the saxons attacked a battle ensued. The sides would line up with swords, shields, war dogs, in front the king, and in front of him a druid spitting cursed at them, charms at us.
The men would paint their faces so they didn't kill one of their own.

The King would give his speech reminding them they were fighting for their lives, their families lives and their land.
Fear, terror even was present, some men ran back to empty their bowels, some just plissed themselves where they stood.
But then the singing began, their battle songs, louder and louder, to give heart to themselves and fear to the enemy. A soldier would look to the man by hos side, someone he had never liked, he now realised he loved him, he would give his life for himand vice versa. A smile each made the bargain.

Well ? DNA was discovered.
Do we not go to matches in our colours, sing our battle hymns, if not forbidden, would there be fights.
Many of us have Celtic, Saxon or Viking DNA.
There is an echo in our blood, the vestige of those distant days, we have our King, Denis and Erik, and it's time for another.
We copy our ancestors without knowing it.
Football is for the ordinary people, we are part of a tribe. Rugger is for the posh, cricket fills the gap. But no other sport makes men react the way we do. It's in our blood.

Incidentally ,who can deny Rasmus has Vikings blood.
And all that is why we love football I believe.
I will leave the exhortations to Stringer, he's better than me.
So CHARGE, KILl, come on United.

People don’t call it the dark ages anymore.

The African American ages is, I believe, the approved term.

Not really, the categorisation has changed multiple times. What many now still consider the dark ages is referred to as late antiquity by many historians.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Middle Ages
The Middle Ages, the medieval period of European history between the fall of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the Renaissance, are sometimes referred to as the "Dark Ages."

Late antiquity is the time of transition from classical antiquity to the Early Middle Ages, generally spanning the 4th–6th century in Europe and adjacent areas bordering the Mediterranean Basin

Gaffer pranks, I expected something football related. Still not long to go now, and I admit I'll be glad to change back.

Anyway , I'm talking about the dark ages.
Seriously though , we do mimic those passed times, and I'm sure we have the DNA of at least one of the tribes
