The main thing I took from 99 is that David May has an extremely high opinion of himself.

He made about 6 appearances that entire season and was left out of the Champions League squad altogether about 7 times. What a numpty.

On the one hand I was also surprised that May seemed convinced he’d be starting, on the other, it did make a lot more sense to push Johnsen into CM with Butt and Belcham and Giggs right & left as usual and therefore bringing in May at CB. Would have meant less shifting around of all the pieces.

Had Johnsen played in midfield at all that season?
