Like I said, I think you’re over estimating coming second a couple of times but fair enough.
Wouldn’t surprise me if this was Arteta’s last season fwiw.

All depends what happens I guess but I think he'll hang around a while longer.

I guess you could argue that Zubamendi thinks Arsenal have that position tied down with Rice, while he walks into our first team in that position in comparison.

Possible - but Rice didn't really play there for us last season so I don't think it would be a huge worry. I do wonder if perhaps the way things shaped up in the transfer market contributed towards our thinking and pointed us more towards Merino as the logical option for the squad, but who knows really.

I’m not sure it’ll be his choice.

You reckon? Last I heard we were in talks to lock him down for a while longer, with the reported wages being so much that it made me uncomfortable
I think he'd have to have a really, really bad season for the decision to be taken out of his hands.

Good player as well to be fair. I had completely forgotten he had a spell at Newcastle at one point until I looked on wiki just now.

You’re probably right, but he’s in his last year and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them go in a different direction if you finish potless again.

Yeah I think his age and PL experience make him a good option for us as it offers a route into the first team for Nwaneri rather than locking down that position for the next 5 years and I get the feeling that's something we're looking to do more of after spending pretty big over the the last 5.

Maybe, I think there's an acknowledgement that we're a little ahead of schedule though so he'll get some leeway unless he's really poor.

Also looks like Sociedad are getting gutted this summer, I wonder if that was a consideration in doing a 180.

Interesting that this deal still hasn't been done by Liverpool. Looks to me like it is possibly falling through.
Are we back in for him? Not that I rate him, I don't, but it would be amusing to take another player off of them like we did with Yoro.
