Pre-season review...

The Emirates Cup has been retained by the mighty Arsenal, bringing an end to pre-season.

Wins over Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon, a draw with Bournemouth and defeat to Liverpool.

A debut today for Calafiori off the bench.
Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly look as if they will play roles this season.

The obvious worries are around Timber and Tomiyasu. We only have 8 defenders, with Kiwior still being linked to a move away. If we cannot rely on those two we are very short.

In goal only Hein (3 US games) and Raya (2 home games) played, and Hein is off on loan. Gives an insight into how Arteta views the role, with Raya probably playing every game this season.

Partey showed today he can still play a part, but in fairness Lyon were so bad it was a walking paced game. We await any further news on Merino or an alternative, which will give us further options in midfield.

Trossard was perhaps our most consistent attacker in pre-season, and his battle with Martinelli still looks up for grabs. Pre-season also gave us few clues as to whether Havertz or Jesus will get the nod on Saturday.

Our squad remains on the small side, with Tomiyasu, Timber and Vieira already picking up "knocks" - and if Nelson, Nketiah and Kiwior do go then we need to replace them quickly.

We are in the last 3 weeks of the transfer window and open up the PL campaign next Saturday at 3pm against Wolves at the Emirates.

The big question ahead of the Wolves home game seems to be:
Partey, Rice, Odegaard with Havertz up top
or
Rice, Havertz, Odegaard with Jesus up top.

I would bet on the former.

I'd prefer Partey Rice Odegaard with Havertz up top Saka on the right and then either Trossard or Martinelli on the left.

I'd imagine it'll be the same team as vs Wolves with Trossard maybe coming in.

Tomi is a big concern going forward. A shame we haven't done more business yet but I guess with an already strong squad we don't need to rush things, as evidence by Calafiori being slowed eased in.

Lucky for you that's what it will be!

Was Tomi on international duty this Summer? How the feck has he picked up an injury that doesn’t have a timeframe for a return date?!

He did it on the US tour.
