DPL League Cup v Salford

Port Vale, Salford’s opponents on Saturday took all 3 points back home after what was regarded as a poor performance by the home team.

Even if Port Vale are strong contenders for the title (which the pundits seem to believe) failing to make much of an impression on them at home does not suggest that they have improved a great deal from last season when they finished poorly.

We would hope to compete well with the best in L2 and there is perhaps good reason to believe we could be favourites to win this one.

The big question surrounds the strength of the team GMcC will put out. My own feeling is that we should look for a good Cup run and that’s what the manager said he wanted too, so minor changes might feature, but not a date for the second strings.

It seems that the new goalkeeper was OK which is a relief, although it’s early days.

It’s a great pity that we’ll be without Maxwell for 3 months again, but there is more strength in depth, so it will perhaps be less significant.

It’s difficult to say much when there is so little to go on and perhaps we should not ignore McCann’s comment that he was not anticipating an easy match.

I feel a duty to be optimistic, so 2-0 (Hirst/Yeboah)

It's likely to be a much changed team. GMs emphasis is on winning the League but getting to the next round could be lucrative. We've strength in depth and GMs tactics pre season should help. I think we'll win. Another 3-1 from me with Sharp ,Molyneaux to score.

Yes, it’s going to be interesting which players he selects. He seemed to contradict himself by saying he wanted a good cup run and then implied that there would be changes, implying more than the odd adjustment.

Too many changes, so, once more, who knows! However, I'll remain confident and say a 3-1 win as I did for the last match, and this time Billy getting the first.

Well, I'd paid 180 pounds but could not get a video stream, or even the audio to start with, and I was going to send a "nasty gram" to Liam.
However, he beat me to it with an explanation of what is going on.
However, I'm still not confident I will be available to watch on Saturday.
On the game, we seemed OK in defence, but still worried about shot conversion.
At least Billy lasted longer than I expected.
