the last 10 or so years has been since SAF left. I mean in terms of transfer policy and just how the club has been run in the background.
The Glazers run other sports teams / businesses - it couldn't have been that much rocket science to see the club wasn't being run properly? Maybe to start with after SAF left, but then they should have seen 'yes, we are making money, but we could make a whole load more if we get the right people in to run the club properly'.
The amount of money we have wasted on panic buys, or paying over the odds, and not having a vision of where we were going. Just going from one manager to another. Not simply a hindsight thing - all good teams are built on solid defence / spine and akin to that well-run clubs are built on having a clear plan and the right people in place. Sometime a great manager can hide that (as SAF did) but we never had a great manager in either.
Even if this season's signings don't all work out well, at least they have been bought with clear thinking and a plan, and I can almost accept it better that we have the right tools in place even if they don't quite work out.
I guess we move on from the last 10 years and learn..................eventually.
What a waste of time.................

Yeah, I accept it's just the way of footie rivalry / banter that people have enjoyed our demise.
We have had a combo of the wrong manager and the the wrong set-up behind the scenes. Choosing a manager has an element of luck to it which we all need to accept, but ensuring the club is well run is a side that should always be in place.
I have freely admitted that I have never been fully convinced by ETH, but hope he proves me wrong this season - I want to see genuine improvement in our playing style, the results should look after themselves if he can manage to do that.
It's really the games against the lesser teams that I am interested in, and if we can really impose ourselves in those games and not concede double figure chances routinely

Haven't you just bought more ex-Ajax/Ten Hag players for the most part? That hasn't really worked out well so far so not sure why continuing that path is suddenly a great plan

I agree here, since AF left it has been a mish mash of buying "big" names or bringing in players on inflated fees and wages, also letting some current players stay too long, all this alongside some poor managerial appointments, some of them I had no issue about when they first came in but soon thought they weren't going to improve the team in anyway.
Since the changes the club has a far better defined structure, people in place doing jobs that weren't addressed previously and a direction they want to take with younger, promising players.
Of course it could still go tats up and I also believe that it cannot be a 1 season expectation for huge improvements but more a 2-3 season overhaul top to bottom
Time will tell

I'm sure it has to be fair. That being said we have at least won 5 major trophies in our worst spell in the Premier League.
Some teams don't get near that in their best years.
