Are Liverpool skint?

Made very few moves in the market this summer - £25m on a back up keeper and £10m + add-ons for Chiesa.

It seems odd that they havent really backed the manager at this stage.

Looking further ahead they have the likes of VVD, TAA and Salah in the last year of their deals, potentially able to walk away next summer for nothing.

Robertson now in his 30s.

With some of these mainstays of their successful Klopp years possibly leaving for nothing, are they just keeping their powder dry for next summer when a more thorough surgery of the squad will take place, with the benefit of Slot knowing what is needed and what his current crop can contribute.

LFC fans will probably have faith in their current squad to do well this year but it seems odd to me that a team that will probably rely quite heavily this season on VVD, Salah, TAA, Allison, Robertson will also be planning for a future without them, and possibly even without most of them next season.

Quite a few teams have been investing in their futures with some pricey but young buys this summer. Spurs, Utd, Chelsea, of course , City, Villa, all spending on 18-20 year olds. I kinda expected LFC to do something similar, getting youngsters in to have a season in the squad with the expectation of being heir to some of the aging stars. The GK is may be in this bracket but Chiesa certainly isnt.

What's the plan at LFC, realistically?

That GK isn`t joining them to be a no.2, so it looks like Allison will be leaving next summer, along with Salah, VVD and TAA.

Chiesa smacks of an opportunistic panic signing to appease the fans, he will hardly ever play and is not the same player since his ACL injury, his pace is virtually non exitstent these days.

Who knows, could be the owners preparing to asset strip the squad before selling the club

As usual you post about things you know nothing about.

opportunistic panic signing we have 5 forwards already

Maybe he's just a bargain no risk signing.

We have the new European format as well which means more games, an extra striker will come in handy.

We can play a front 3 in the league and then change over with the other 3 for cup games

Of course they have money. Didnt they try to buy Bordeaux?

Hands up who thinks Billy watches Juventus a lot.

Me either. I bet none of us do.

A know bits about him, because he’s famous, and he’s famous because he’s an international footballer who won the Euros.

10 million quid and can play on the right. We literally only have Salah who can do that as a primary position.

That’s it, we have space in the squad so why not? He’s better than the player that doesn’t exist there.

As for money, our accounts are freely available. We’re minted.

Why would the owners asset strip the club before selling it? Surely they'd be aiming to sell the club at peak value (and thus best assets).

We've got loads of money! Clever signings over pi55ing money up the wall is the way to go.

I was very doubtful when we signed Salah and look how that worked out. Chiesa for £10m could be a similar bargain, or a huge flop. What does £10m in football get you these days anyway? It's chump change.

We're not skint at all, the owners just aren't as daft in the market as other clubs. We're as shrewd with getting a decent price for outgoing players as we are buying, it's sensible ownership.

I respect how LFC do business, they live within their means.

But i am not taking about spending silly money, or moving away from a sensible approach (BTW , Nunez for 65m + 20m add on's). A decent no.6 costs anywhere from 40m upwards. You have offered big sums on Caicedo and Lavia and Zubimendi. Just seems odd that you'll go into the season a key player short and someone will need to be bought and integrated in the future....why not now if you have the money?

My overriding point is why not start forming the basis of Slots squad now, let things settle and develop and tweak it further next season. And i suppose i would include in that the possibility of selling Salah to Saudi this summer, and building for a future without him, but with £60m in your pocket.

Yeah, plus see how Slot settles in - the danger zone for managers is the first few months. So far so good but early doors. Also, haven't 'pool been more active in winter windows?

Not sure how anybody in this league can be skint given the utter riches they get from tv etc. it’s obscene.
