Then there were 4/ scratch that call it 5

As the penultimate transfer day comes to a close, the club continue to successfully move players on, Lukaku, Kapa & Petrovic.

The next 30 hours will be busy and may or may not throw up some surprises , as we still need to settle the following 5 squad players.

Chalobah- 2.6m, Chilwell 10.4m , Carney 5.2m, Broja,2m & Sterling- 16.9m

costing the club 37m per season.

We still seem to be in the market for a striker. Osimhen? Toney ?

Rumours we are looking for another winger for some reason Sancho as a swap for Sterling

Chalobah, Chilwell & Carney all have question marks remaining over their futures for next season?

We do also have 6 under 21 players

Kellyman, Gabriel, Caiscedi,Washington, Forfana & Guigu

The 25 squad confirmed ? is currently at 23 players leaving two open places for new incoming players or any of the current player listed here to be included.

With the departure of Lukaku & the proposed departures of Sterling & Chilwell the club will have radically reduced the wage bill as these three players were/ are costing the club 42m per season, none of whom were playing regular football for one reason or another.

Once this is tied up this can be considered a success for the club from an accounting, financial perspective, hugely significant for FFP-PSR compliance. It may not be in this window though, as time is running out.

The transfer business over this summer window has at times been extremely contentious, it has raised questions as to the clubs ethics. It has divided opinion.

But in the last 14 days the club has begun to tackle important difficult issues regarding the squads cost, make up , size and quality head on.

It strikes me as we enter the last day of the window that they have had possibly the best window since they arrived ( famous last words)

The squad is not perfect, but through the woods, daylight can be seen, it may not yet be a squad capable to mount a solid nailed on top 4 challenge, but it is moving in the right direction, and the clubs finances will stabilise.

But lets see what they next in this window

COY Blues, KTBFFH, UTC!

What is your view on how these players are being treated.

Do you care about the fairly ruthless and disrespectful way that some appear to have been treated.

Your manager has been pretty clear & honest in what's going on in terms of who is in his plans and who isnt but the decisions seem to be more about money (selling youth, getting big wages off the books) than actually managing and balancing a squad.

Do you think players care. Will Sterling think "feck you, im staying and you'll pay me regardless of whether i play or not" or do players just see being sold or unwanted as part of a footballers life, deal with it and move on?

Hello mate,

I was hoping you say hello.

Treated, well, Gallagher was shameful.

The rest, i think is part and parcel of being part of the squad or not.

Sterling, Chilwell for one reason or another do not fit the plans going forward and both are nearly 27m per season between them.

Moving them off the squad will cost the club, but I think its better done sooner rather than latter and the squad places can go to players who are deemed suitable.

If the club can afford to it, which i assume they feel that they can, then its for the best.

The new look squad , i think that the club is instilling a culture of you get paid for performance, results will increase your wages and value.

if you dont, then you run the risk of being sold or dropped.

I think the club is creating competitive arena, the new wage structure is very different from the previous one, its is very low, by comparison.

I think the players know where they stand.

This new direction is the culmination of all of the poor actions taken in the first two windows.

I actually think that they are turning the corner as far as FFP compliance and squad structure around.

The squad looks like it is going in the right direction possible a solid top 6 finish ( 6th)

It has issues, the G/K. the defence is light in quality and we would benefit from a 20 goal a season striker.

But after that the squad looking decent.

We still need to get at least one C/B off the books, Diasai or Badiashile, but Chalobah the pure profit player has been earmarked. Another Shame!

Mudryk should be Loaned for a couple of seasons, he doesnt have a football brain.

Chilwell , Sterling and Broja will hopefully find new homes sooner rather than latter, but ?

I really hope we dont sign Sancho & do sign Toney, but Osimhen would be ok, on the right money, not the type of money he is holding out for,.

All this is well written and fair enough but I'm still not sure how this cold and mechanical way of buying and selling players will impact the outside view of the club.

You can, quite rightly say, who cares what players feel when they earn a small fortune and are told they are surplus to requirements BUT surely players and Managers will start to think twice about joing Chelsea when they could be treated so badly? Also, how will the current squad (the ones who don't go) feel about the club and their future? Will they give 100% in games or just think towards pay day and their next big move?

Might seem a tad melodramatic but where will you find the next Lampard, Terry and Drogbas when Chelsea have a reputation for buying en masse and then selling after 6 months when someone newer and shinier comes along?

Dan, glad you found the piece interesting

"All this is well written and fair enough but I'm still not sure how this cold and mechanical way of buying and selling players will impact the outside view of the club".

? the outside view of the club?

How are our clubs viewed by the outside world?

Its a fickle business at best imo, I assume it matters if you have a strong need to be liked by the outside world.

Football supporters generally love the club they support, after that 99% of football supporters haven't got much love for any other team.

How do you feel about Spurs & how do they feel about Arsenal?

I dont believe you give flying fig about Spurs tbh & visa versa.

The media ? well they will write whatever suits the agenda of the day from whatever particular colour their glasses are tinted irrespective of context.

Im sure you are familiar with poorly published journalism.

Footballers today think with their bank balances foremost in their & importantly their agents minds.

Club owners & supporters of their clubs are sick and tired of giving players contracts with no assurity that these highly paid professionals will act professionally.

Im sure you can name a few x AFC players who have not honoured their contracts by playing to a level that equates to the 250/300k per week they are getting paid.

So this cold mechanical way of buying players your not sure about does have a rooted reasoning.

I personally believe the club have handled the Gallagher matter appallingly, but it is a consequence of the new owners poor decision making in the first 12 months +

I feel that the way that they have restructured the squad has been abysmal , imo they have not focused on the here & now. The players they brought in on big wages all failed and now they are in the process of undoing the failings that they created, something which i believe is better done AsAp, as is feasible, but it is messy and as they say to make an omelette you have to break eggs.

"You can, quite rightly say, who cares what players feel when they earn a small fortune and are told they are surplus to requirements BUT surely players and Managers will start to think twice about joing Chelsea when they could be treated so badly"?

Treated so badly ? well put it into context?

Raheem Sterling has got 50m + outstanding on his wage contract, He has not lived up to what his contract value represents, the club are going to take a huge hit on him, he is going to get a massive payout.

Personally if the club back the manager and the manager doesnt feel he is what he needs due to his recent form then if they put him up for sale rather than give him no game time, then I have no issue.

Gallagher, as i have in his case it is a great shame the club valued his fee over his qualities, but he has got a massive move, he is playing C/L football in Madrid , on the money he deserves.

I cant call the worst treatment, as the outcomes are better than you or me will ever experience, so .

Managers & players will think twice before joining CFc, because of the way the new ownership are running the club, but you know, they are putting their money where their mouths are and they are trying to turn the mess around.

Will they get it right, have not got a clue, would i prefer that had not done what they did in the first 12 months + , yep!

But we are where we are, the club Roman built is now a historical record, but i think its way too early to forecast where the club will be in 5 years and what it will look like.

Its going to be different for sure.

"Might seem a tad melodramatic but where will you find the next Lampard, Terry and Drogbas when Chelsea have a reputation for buying en masse and then selling after 6 months when someone newer and shinier comes along"?

I think the ownership have now revised their buying strategy 3 times since they bought the club, imo they do seem to be tackling the problems and the side is looking better, although there are still real issues, G/K, the defence and a 20 a season striker.

But let's see how this window closes, id be surprised if they have not tried to solve one of these issues, I pray the answer is not Sancho

As far as the squad goes from a youth academy perspective, the club looks like it will look at South American youth players first.

Lampard came from West Ham, J/T was home grown, and Didier came from ? Lyon or ?

Palmer came from City

The long contracts the club are giving to players are giving player long term security, tbh I don't think they would give these contracts unless they had a strategy.

But I hate the prospect of Enzo 0n a 8 years + contract.

Time will tell.
