Tottenham releases Europa League squad list

Tottenham releases Europa League squad list for 2024-25 campaign

I don't know this author, maybe you guys do, but mainly he complains about including 4 GKs and omitting Djed Spence. See what you guys all think....I have no opinion whatever on this matter.
But I could say a lot about the lack of really top class experienced mid fielders like, say, Dani Olmo.
Enjoy the read:

Wimmer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst obviously we done Sunderland like a kipper. He was bought for 5m sold for 18m. Levy prays every 5m signing works out that way imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------

steve bruce wasn't it signed him?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was Stoke and Pulis
----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn’t we buy him because he was Sonny’s best mate? I’m sure that was part of the reasoning.

Still remember when we got that fee for him - utterly gobsmacked, even Levy must have felt a little bad about that one, absolute daylight robbery
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbf he looked solid as Jan’s understudy that first season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The following year he looked like he had been on the Andy Reid diet
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Too true

Devonshire I still believe Dembele could’ve contributed something that season. But we can agree to disagree on that. But I do agree his powers were dwindling. But if so he should’ve went the August before the January imho

If anyone is buying with an eye of future resale then it is Chelsea.

Stock piling kids on long deals, looking to cash in down the line even when they may have spent the whole time on loan and not actually played for CFC.

I loved the guy. If you watch a best bits on youtube it brings it back just how feckin good he was, when on his game.

Not really seen anyone like him since.

May be he had the legs to play some more games that season? May be. But that was an £11m may be, which is probably more like £20m in todays money.

The classic I would like to see Levy bring back is the double youngster same club signing:

Dawson/Reid
Rose/Lennon
Vorm/Davies
Walker/Naughton
Davies/Etherington

It was always the cheaper one that turned out the best in most cases

Especially the walker one ….naughton was meant to be the main buy from them two….i worked with a sheff united fan at the time and said walker was miles better just raw

No Spence?

Reminds me just how paper thin our defence is, 2 or 2 injuries and we are cooked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is exactly what this author is complaining about!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have 9 defenders - if 2 get injured we have 7 fit, Ange usually only picks 4 for a game.

In Europe we have 7 defenders, if 2 get injured we have 5 defenders fit, Ange usually only picks 4 for a game.

We can change the European squad after the group stage.

The OPs complaint about lack of defenders is unfounded. Would people be happier if we picked Spence to cover Left back where we already have Udogie/VDV/Davies who can play there or to cover Right back where we already have Porro/Gray who can play there?

Or is the complaint that we didn’t sign another defender ? A question that Ange has already answered - we have a generational talent coming through in defence who will be with us next summer and he didn’t want to block his path to first team minutes.

Our strategy is clear, the question is will Levy give it time - this is usually where he faaacks up, gets bored/trigger happy and ditches it for something new. But we are currently building a squad of the best young players around - something Dortmund did to startling affect. we have bought or developed the potential backbone to this team for the next decade over the last 18 months - VDV/Dragusin/Vuskovic - Gray/Bergvall/Moore. Less certain are the attacking talents of Hyuk/Odobert/Lankshear - although Odobert passes the eye test for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I count only 6 defenders in our EL squad, which what the the OP is about.

Yeah it would be great Ted if we had Olmo, De Bruyne, Rodri and prime Pirlo - unfortunately we don’t and can only pick players actually in our squad.

1 senior player alongside Reguilon had to miss out - they’ve chosen Spence - he was definitely the lowest in terms of managerial trust although Bissouma must be pushing that now and Richarlison never being fit when we need him is faaacking annoying.

We can though in January make changes to the euro squad.

Chelsea have left Cole Palmer out of there Euro squad - can’t blame them they should walk qualifying, that Conference league is an absolute joke
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We don't have such players because Levy wont go for them.
Olmo was available but .....

Olmo was available but .....

Wanted to go to Barcelona

Sorry we didn’t persuade a Spanish player to play for us rather than Barcelona.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Always a matter of timing.
When he was playing in Germany was the time to make an offer.
Anyways, the point is....Levy won't go for the best....only the cheapest.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was no clamour for him pre the euros. He was a good player at Liepzig but not a great player, not the player we saw at the euros.

Maddison for instance was a far less risky option the summer we got him.

Levy doesn’t go for the best I agree. I like our current strategy though, we’re buying top young players before they are elite - some won’t make it but there are plenty that look like they will to me. This is the Dortmund approach and it’s one Spurs used to use to great affect in the early days.

I just hope Levy sticks to it

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we are condemned to being a training club for Real Madrid then I will support Chelsea.
As for Olmo, there is no reason our scouts could not have seen his talent early.
Thats what Scouts are for.

The clever thing about what they have done is stockpile and have another clube in Strasbourg where they can loan players etc.

Even if they had a crazy season and got relegated they have players to sell/reshape.

In comparison anyone we would sell we would have to replace our squad is thin and we have no youngsters coming through this year. The best ones are all out on loan at places where you are not getting good prices for them.

There is no value in our squad. The keepers would command nothing not a single penny, davies we would be lucky to get anything. Then the likes of Bergvall, Gray a year down the line there would be no value in selling them.

What a weird take....there's nothing clever about what Chelsea have done/ are doing.

Chelsea have spent vast sums on players who may or may not turn out any good. A good number of them may actually ever play for them.

Our players are bought for the squad. Value is totally irrelevant. Theirs are bought as assets who they can hopefully profit from.

I know if Levy acted like this then there'd be total revolt.

Any Spurs fan lauding Boehlys transfer strategy over ours clearly has agenda
