EPL Champions 2028

United CEO Omar Berrada revealed the club's ambition is to win the Premier League by 2028. During a meeting with staff, Berrada introduced "Project 150," emphasising that both the men's and women's teams aim to win titles by that year which would align with the 150 years since the club's inception as Newton Heath then Manchester United, a major milestone in its illustrious history. He acknowledged that achieving this goal would require significant effort, with the team currently struggling in the league and Europa League. The plan follows significant staff cuts after Sir Jim's minority stake in the club.

Berrada was keen to offer support for ETH!

And also an indication that our transfer policy won’t be focussed too much on players in their prime, which is a big problem if you want to be successful in this league.

That'll attract the big players in summer. "If I come to the biggest club in the world, will we try and win the PL next season?"

"No".

We have a good few players, many of whom you’d expect to be key over the next few seasons, who should be approaching their prime years around 2027, particularly in defence.

The problem is midfield, where as usual we’re too young and too old, and up top, where we’re full of potential but with little experience.

2027 is crazy stretch, if we’re being honest. There are still question marks over the goalkeeper. If he settles in properly, finds his groove, and builds some proper relationships with his defenders, the potential is there I think, but for now it is somewhat unrealised.

We have no reliable left back in the squad, and for me, are in need of two new players. We’re starting from scratch there. The rest of the defence can be there or thereabouts.

Midfield, facking still, needs heavy investment. At present, it’s barely mid-table in terms of strength in depth. Put a De Jong (yeah, I know) next to Ugarte and add another decent ball-winner into the mix with Mainoo, and we can start to talk.

Then there’s putting the ball in the net. We have two very dangerous but inconsistent wingers and a third with plenty of potential, but none which looks close to guaranteeing 20 goals and assists a season. And of the rest of the forwards, the only one which has displayed a real talent for burying chances is starting to look like he has fitness issues, which are always a big worry coming at the start of a player’s career.

So all we really need is the goalie to work out, two new left backs, a world class ball progressor and some depth for the midfield, a heap more consistency from the wingers, Bruno and Mount to regain their peak powers, and Hojlund to get fit and stay fit. And probably an experienced utility forward. And City to get relegated and Captain Scarlet to go to Barcelona. So not much really.

City. Arsenal, Liverpool, Real, Barcelona, Munich, PSG and others have the same ambitions. It's pointless having these targets, just do the best you can.

Yeah there’s a lot of work to be done. And another problem is if we don’t have the right balance betweeb youth, experience and players in their prime.

Never pointless, 52, to set targets, even if they seem overly ambitious. Targets guide, they are used to measure performance, they make certain individuals accountable and finally if it doesn't motivate everyone at the club to mark a milestone as a time to win the league again, when can it?

Task in hand is a massive undertaking, it suggests we have moved away from short term hire and fire tactics. The long term ambitions is further underscored by the type, profile and age of players we are targeting under the new structure.

But they will all have the same targets.

Rosso,

In full agreement.

A shortful in GK, two LBs, DM and 2 CM controllers & an out and striker is all ETH needs to make the team competitive, giving the squad more depth and quality! Impressed with Amad's development down the right, more options required. Equally Nacho will progress further down the left but question mark remains over Rashford. Antony will be surplus to requirements, matter of time he finds pastures new.

And those at the sharp end elevate themselves over their rivals by having targets, the same targets. Contrast that to Utd, who have had zero ambitions, since SAF retired because the leadership made it clear "Utd did not need to win anything". If the leadership placed zero importance on sporting success are we surprised we are where we are?

Before the new structure we had no realistic ambition, only pipe dreams, now with a professional set up - with sporting success at the fore front - we can dream like all the other elite clubs.

Every successful side strikes a balance between youth and experience. We'll watch our next transfer window with keen interest but as Rosso pointed out the new transfer strategy seems to be to identify youthful talent with great promise, we also have a few progressing through our academy with the view they will reach their prime at some point as a group to make Utd serious challengers in the future.
