Theres a debate about who is better and who we should choose for England between Palmer and Saka. I get it, last season for Chelsea and for City, Palmer played on the wing like Saka does for Arsenal. Palmer now plays number 10 and personally I think that suits him more than the wing. I think if we are talking about whos better on the wing, then I would say Saka.
However, why do we have to decide between Palmer or Saka? Why can't we fit both in? Or perhaps we have so many options now in the attacking areas for England that Saka would start some games and Palmer other games depending on the opposition.
Personally I think against weaker opposition, why can't we play this:
-----------------------Rice
------------Palmer---------Bellingham
Saka---------------Kane----------------Foden
And if we come up against better oppsition,
--------------Rice----Mainoo
Saka------------Bellingham--------Palmer
---------------------Kane
Yes whilst Foden is great for City, Saka is better for England than him and Palmer has to play on current form, hence why against better opposition, I would drop Foden for Mainoo. Bellingham has to start.
Palmer and Saka for England

At the moment Saka's output looks to be dropping while Palmers is hitting the heights.
May be a changing of the guard is due?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You speak as if veteran Saka is past it and young Cole could be his replacement for years to come.
Saka is only 7 months older than Palmer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
age is not relevant really.
When i say a change, maybe Palmer should not be the one starting and Saka as sub. Play the guy in tip top form and see whether it improves us.
Its like the whole Foden/Bellingham debate. Dropping one for the other does not mean the other is shiiiit, it just means the form guy gets in ahead while maintaining the balance of the team. It was the lack of balance as we tried to shoehorn the best players in to the team in the Euros that cost us a bit IMO
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really a changing of the guard then really?

Just reread my comment, which should have read Palmer to become first choice and Saka back up .
That would be to 'change the guard' IMO. Not advocating dropping Saka totally, like say Sterling's current status, as he still has so much to offer and what a sub to have.

Your talking about dropping one of England's most consistent performers, for yrs, for a guy who is on top form at the mo, and then to compare him to Sterlings situation when it is nothing alike, baffels me. Also, i don't see how taking Saka out makes england stronger.

I am not comparing to Sterling. I was providing clarity on my comment of 'changing the guard' by making it clear that Saka is not to be jettisoned (like Sterling) but should perhaps come behind Palmer, the form player, for now
Starting with a player who is scoring and assisting for fun can make England stronger. Having Saka as a bench option would also be phenomenal strength

I dont think playing Palmer from the right is to shoe-horn him in as he has played a lot of his career so far from there!

I don't think Saka's output is dropping with 5 assists and a goal in 6 games. Even when tired and out of form he's coming up with moments that win us games.
Palmer obviously has great stats but he racked most of the goal contributions in 2 games, so not as consistent.
I wouldn't exactly call it a changing of the guard.

Saka is one of if not the first name on the teamsheet his numbers for England are very good. If Palmer is to get into the team then it's from a central area. I don't think there should be much doubt in that regard. Palmer is up against the likes of Foden and Madison for the 10.
