Tough work, but we got the important win in the end. Southampton defended with bodies and got a breakaway goal to lead early in the second half.
But...
SEVEN - Havertz has scored in 7 consecutive home games.
SEVEN - Saka has seven assists already this season.
SEVEN - We are 7 unbeaten at the start of the season.
EIGHT - The goals were after 58, 68 and 88 minutes...
The rotations didn't work. Jesus is lacking confidence and it shows. Sterling was slightly better but his first start wasn't anything to write home about.
Havertz goal almost immediately after the Saints goal was vital. Saka nicking the ball and setting Kai through, and a great finish.
Three subs - Jesus, Sterling and Jorginho all off for Martinelli, Trossard and Merino - continued the momentum swing.
Saka once again provided, a wonderful cross for Martinelli to tap home at the far post.
Saka got the third himself, Trossard causing panic in the away teams defence and Saka smashing home the loose ball.
International break now. Hopefully the 2 weeks gives our right backs time to get fit, Zinchenko should join Tomiyasu back in the mix and Odegaard will hopefully be close. And no more injuries please!!
Lucky Sevens!!

3 points and much needed break.
Don’t want any injuries for those who are playing for their country.
How serious is Timbers injury?

It's a bit concerning that that is the second game in a row we've come out and been sloppy in the second half. The players who came in certainly didn't stake a claim for a starting place. There is a bit of mitigation for Sterling and Jesus both haven't had many minutes. Having said that I would say if we could do the right deals in January I would get rid of Jesus he just doesn't look like he's got that zip anymore certainly doesn't seem like the player we bought.

Will be hard to get a striker in in January, but we are being linked to the usual suspects. Jonathan David is the most recent.

Havertz 4 in a row in all comps too-becoming a goal scoring machine. Absolute polar opposite to this time last year

We are conceding in nearly every home game. We need to tighten up because away from home our record this calender is absolutely superb.

Havertz is one of the first names on the team sheet. The 60M we spent seems well justified now

Was there a foul on Sterling for Southampton's goal
Martinelli scoring again
Saka didn't do much except an assist and a goal
Tyler Dibling was Southampton's best player. Caused our defence a few problems.

Yeah, apart from assisting twice and scoring what did he do? Pointless him being there.

I understand why some people don't appreciate Saka. He is shunted out wide and unless players find him in space it is very hard for him to influence the game as his talent almost demands. This is why I compare him to Iniesta. Saka has excellent spatial awareness and can easily play a bit more centrally (in Odegaards position while he is out).
Saka however has very good finishing and power, so Arteta wants him higher in the attacking line. He is more important to the team for direct goal involvements. It is a catch 22 for 'tranquilo' type players.

We still have issues to break teams down with a stable defensive approach at home. We are wasteful and not taking our chances properly. A lot to improve.....
Still not moaning about our form and results after 7 games in the PL and 2 difficult games in the CL. Good start to the season.
